"Specter deserves much credit for Roberts and Alito becoming supremes. And I am not a Specter fan. I have heard him roundly booed on several occasions. No I was not a participant. For once I kept my mouth shut."
I might agree that Toomey would have lost--MIGHT agree--but there is no way I will agree to any such thing as Specter helping through Alito and Roberts. Specter dragged his feet every inch of the way that I could see, with his 'all nominations go through me' comments and then his gang of 14 sellout. He might have voted for them in the end, but it was conservative kicking and screaming that got them there, not Specter's helpful hand.
"...not only would Toomey have defeated Hoeffel in the general election, turnout would have been higher in socially conservative areas and down in Philly and its suburbs (since many of Specter's RINOs would have stayed home instead of voting for Specter and what-the-hell for Kerry as well) and it would have allowed President Bush to carry PA."
Interesting theory that, if true, would have helped Bush avoid the Ohio debacle.
I think Santorum has the momentum. Swann should help too.
