LOL! Well that's not what I was thinking, BigSky. I was thinking that they don't go very well with her stylish clothes.

You think I wasn't thinking of stylish? LOL!

:)

Actually, I disagree with most of what comes from your keyboard pounding. When you do little more than attack and criticize, there isn't much to refute. Try putting some substance into your posts and reduce the bragging and vitriol filled attacks.

I just thought it ironic that the spelling police make the same mistakes as those they seek to correct.

And I did say typo, not misspelling.

When we won, everyone forgot how pessimistic this place was.

Oh, no, this elephant (figuratively speaking) has not forgotten! We had the faithful who worked hard for the last election, as well as posted here, who remained positive, and the McCain/Buchanan/Keyes doom&gloomers who saw a dem winner behind every headline. I do not bother to engage them. Some Freepers believe that they have to respond for the reputation of FR. I say ignore them and they will go away. All they want is attention.

We are in serious trouble in the House, and the Senate prospects are better for the Rats than for us. The governorships aren't looking good either.

I disagree that the GOP is in trouble in the House. If anything and as it stands, the Democrats stand to lose a little ground in the House.

It's easy to say that the GOP is in trouble in the Senate. Mainly for two reasons, first of all, the Senate is controlled by a slim margin by the GOP, and secondly, most of the GOP in the Senate cannot be counted on to "carry the water" for this president, or this country when they're required. That's a demonstrable fact, given that we're nearing the mid-term and re-election of many of the same Senators who relied on Bush's help in 2002.

Many of them might find it difficult for President Bush to go out on the stump with them for the photo-ops and the help out on the campaign trail because of their attitude toward him in Congress for the last 4 years, after what he's done for many in 2002.

President Bush don't owe many of them anything, but those same Congresspeople owe this President alot.

Now, having said that, I think it's dangerous to speculate on the unknowns this far from November.

Then you don't read most of my posts, which are ALWAYS factual. So, I guess that you just follow me around the threads, looking for something, ANYTHING, you can try to hit me with. Is that it? :-)

As you can see, I have a lot of fun with them. They just get more angry, then they sometimes get themselves into trouble. I like poking them in the ribs. I'll have a dialog with anyone, but when it gets nasty, I'll manipulate them and ruin their day.

Sometimes it comes down to a choice between gaining momentum, or just holding ground. When the Democrats are allowed to win, we lose ground as they undo our progress.

Look, most Politicians are just plain crooks. Then you have the nuts, and finally a few good guys. I'm talking about both sides of the aisle.

Sometimes you have to support a true bastard, just to keep his 100% worse opponent from getting in, where they can do real damage.

Winning elections is just the start, because all it really does is keep another jerk from getting in there. Congress is hopeless, so I look to the President to actually get things done.

Understood. But it gets frustrating. BTW, I'd never vote for a Dim, ever. I will say this however, I won't pull the lever for McCain either.

The polls give us a general picture of the country's general mood. This is of some help in predicting what will happen in November. It is obviously of little help in predicting individual seats. It's not possible to know yet which seats we are likely to lose. We need to know who the candidates are, and that's often not set in concrete this early in the year. Same is true of GOP retirements and possible Abramoff-related exposures.

Demanding an exact list of vulnerable seats, let alone "numbers" for the candidates at this point, just shows how unsophisticated you are.

All I said was that 1) the person who wrote the vanity post gave no solid basis for his/her view that the GOP will gain, and therefore was not worth reading; and 2) that I know more about politics than most FReepers, which doesn't mean I necessarily know all about the individual 2006 races. Only a tiny number of experts, very few of them on FReep (I believe based on much experience), do.

I think the GOP will retain the House by a very narrow margin that will make it hard to pass legislation, and might even raise the possibility of a "compromise" so-called moderate Rat as Speaker. Call it 220-215, down from 232 I believe. Not a disaster, but not a good result for us. And I think there's a real possibility of losing more.

We will lose 2-3 in the Senate, and a few governors.

What we will not do is gain any in the House, or more than one in the Senate.

It's a long way to November. Your predicting the Super Bowl winner based on the first pre-season game. BTW- 'Niners are World Champs in '07.

I would love to see GOP gains in the House and 60 GOP senators. Right now, there is absolutely no good reason to think either will happen.

Yes, and I'd love to be wrong.

But it's pretty clear that this administration is adrift. Chances are good that Iran will have a nuclear bomb, with no serious response from us, which will further undermine Bush's residual respect from swing voters on security.

Bush is very unlikely to change his basic position on immigration, which, again, will further undermine his residual respect from swing voters on security.

These two things alone are enough to substantially weaken the GOP in this election. There are numerous other factors working against us, too, including the tendency among voters to tune out presidents who have been in office as long as Bush has -- especially when they have little that is new or arresting to say.

Even if these sorts of things improve in coming months, GOP prospects will have already been damaged by poor recruitment of candidates -- and, I suspect, by more upcoming GOP retirements in the House.
