But, aren't they Muslims? Whats the point of wasting our time helping them? at least thats the question i raise if you believe in the broad brush.
Well, maybe a bigger brush is needed. The little brush we've been using (it's just one fundamentalist sect) seems to be too small.
I'm not for calling all muslims 'the enemy', but it's starting to look (from the extent of the rioting) as if the problem is alot bigger than on "fundamentalist sect".
You have it right.
They will deal with us so long as it is in their interests. They will try to use us against their fellow Muslims. The pure fanatics are a minority and the majority will follow them only so long as they are successful.
Muhammad Ali?
You can find examples, but they are very few and far in between. What makes it worse is that since it's within their religion to lie to unbelievers, it's hard to judge whether they are honest or not.
I understand.
The deafening silence in the American muslim world is hard to miss.
Although it's necessary to be realistic about who our enemies are, it's also important not to link our attacks based specifically and entirely on an individuals religion.
I would say that this could and should justifiably be used as a profile to help identify enemies of our country.
There are muslims who are capitalists and who believe in a democratic government.
There are muslims fighting in the US Armed forces in this war.
Yoy are correct, it is a "broad brush". Another word for it is "historical view". Somebody has to be allowed to do it, no? While you're looking at the trees, she's looking at the forrest. Mark Helprin is another analyst who takes a broad view and makes strategic recommendations (duly ignored by the present administration.) I suggest that you look up his essays. On the other hand, V.S.Naipaul looks at the trees (he published two books about his travels among the Muslims) and reaches rather pessimistic conclusions as well.
"KEEP ON BUYING "DANSK"!!!
Yes, do. Excellent Vodka, excellent!
Good essay too.
Bump for later read.
In a matter of two sentences, you completely contradict yourself. The religion of Islam and the Islamic world are one in the same. That's what makes the WOT so diifcult. You can't separate the Islamic religion from the Islamic society and culture. They're one in the same.
I agree. We don't need to be moderates in order to not offend. We need to be REAL!!!!
You can find examples, but they are very few and far in between.
For crying out loud, do you remember a couple of months ago when they wanted a Jhihad against Burger King because the picture of an ice-cream cone SORT OF looked like the symbol for allah if you turned it sideways and reversed it. I'm sure there are good Muslims some where, but they sure aren't letting their voices be heard.
"It's people like you, who think like you do, that will get us all killed."
I agree...
Warning, don't get between me and any "islamofascist" or "jihadist". I will go right through you, to get at my enemy. Okay.
Right on! Let's give them the Hell they seek!
Do us all a favor and don't bring a gun into a 7-11... I hope you know the difference.
