A stevedore manages the operation of loading or unloading a ship. A stevedore, which can be an individual or a company, typically owns equipment used in the loading or discharge operation and hires longshoremen who actually load and discharge cargo under the direction of a stevedore superintendent. The term "longshoreman", is derived from a contraction of the word or phrase for a person who is along the shore, that is, an along-the-shore-man. It is skilled work that requires operation of loading equipment, the proper techniques for lifting and stowing cargo, and the correct handling of hazardous materials. In earlier days, stevedores had to tie down cargoes with rope. A special form of stop knot is called the stevedore's knot. The methods of securely tying up parcels of goods is called stevedore lashing or stevedore knotting.
The order has come down the chain of command. Any officer not towing the line will need to seek a new career. That or Bush is not the Commander in Chief...last time I checked he was.
Thanks!
So if the longshoremen unload the containers and if the stevedore supplies the equipment and the direction, what does the terminal operator do?
Also where and at what point is U.S. Customes involved in all of this?
Pathetic. Facts mean nothing to you. I know that!
Israel cancelled the sale of Phalcon EW planes to China in July of 2000? Do you know of any additional planes being sold by Israel to China since?
"Do you know of any additional planes being sold by Israel to China since?"
Dubai cannot conduct any business with Israel. Does that mean anything to you?
The list of conservatives now considered to be enemies by the Bushbots has grown VERY long.
Let me know when you have something to say.
Far shorter then you think.
Why? You're deaf to facts, as all of your posts prove.
It's good to see many are still keeping their senses here about what is a very bad deal. I know this, nothing anyone says is going to make me change my mind, outsourcing our ports to a foreign country in the Middle East with past ties to terrorism is just wrong.
Dubai cannot conduct any business with Israel. Does that mean anything to you?
Non-sequitur. BTW, it's Dubai's loss that they don't do business with Israel.
But since your playing, China, the great terminal operator you seem to be defending wants to destroy Taiwan's sovereignty. Meanwhile it aids Iran, a country who wants to destroy Israel. All of that since the Israeli's cancelled the EW plane sale to China because it was a threat to a country that China wants to crush.
You get?
Bingo. If the CEO of your company says everything is peachy keen and you go out to the press the next day and say he's wrong, you get fired. Of course those down the chain of command will support him----what else are they gonna do?
I want china out too. get it? Further,America should not allow a foreign nation run our ports...especially a nation that seeks the destruction of Israel. Get it?
About 70% of the people that support this ports deal just happen to be posters on FreeRepublic.
Does anyone think this might all draw more attention to the fact that we need to get back Long Beach Harbor from China? billyblythe already made his fortune from China; but we don't have to honor that dirty deal, do we!
Wow, I didn't know the Department of Defense, U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs all belonged to FR. Imagine that.
There were times when it felt that way. Fortunately national polls are showing quite the opposite.
"what else are they gonna do?"
It's rare to discover a whistleblower in the military ranks. Talk about ruining a career. I personally know some retired colonels...they don't live in poverty.
I really hope so. That deal never sat well with me either; and I bet it didn't sit well with a lot of folks defending the rotten deal with the UAE now.
