*Snicker*
Their hatred for Alan is at the root of much of their hatred of me. It's an old story.
Drink water! Lots of water. It works.
The UAE is a friendly country. Further, they sell us oil, we have to let them use the dollars to buy something from us.
If you don't like this arrangement, stop using their oil or form a corporation, raise the capital and out bid them for the ports.
Or a King as the founders actually offered George Washington, or a Prime Minister, or just use you imigination.
I'm not going to label you or anyone here. I haven't posted for 3 weeks and probably won't for a good while again.
I see the points of the defenders of the deal, but they don't persuade me.
Once upon a time, we had common sense in this nation. Now we have nuance, rationalization, excuses for stuff that doesn't make sense.
Excuse me, but I don't even know what Republican means anymore. Nevertheless, I look forward to a process and outcome that is in the best interests of our nation.
Up is down, black is white, etc. You would think there are better ways to secure mid-east allies than handing our ports over to them.
You would be well served to read The Emperor's New Clothes about 10 times.
I'm going to call my friend tomorrow and get his son's phone number. His son was stationed not long ago in the UAE. He's stationed in the States now and I want to get his take on all this.
Sort of like you and your friends dragging Harriet Miers into this, huh?
Uh, lots and lots.
Is that question supposed to be relevant to anything?
Oh, I get it. We're supposed to be terrified that the UAE, which will have no more responsibility for port security than P&O did, will look the other way while nukes are smuggled in to NY.
You take us for simpletons, EV. It's amazing to watch you link arms with Mo Dowd in your suspicion of all Arabs.
PR or no, that won't persuade a bunch of wildeyed FReepers from going off half-cocked with this administration. Many of them hate the guy to begin with.
You didn't answer my question about whether this was a political loser for Republicans, just as sinky didn't answer my question about a nuke in NY.
Typical for y'all. You think you deserve everyone to answer every bit of spin you can think up, but never answer anything honestly that is put to you.
I understand the quid pro quo - it's the only half-plausible super-secret defense this Administration could make.
I simply don't believe that this type of arrangement, like the blackmail the Saudis rammed down our throats re: Israel and the Philistine Terror State, is wise, in our long term best interests, nor does it pass the $$$ smell test. It's something a Rat POTUS would do. (Panama Canal, Long Beach Ports)
That would be spin. Bush said the UAE is a friendly country, cooperates with us on the war on terror and if the UAE wishes to purchase this stuff and the British seller wants to sell, and no other company wants to buy it, then it is ok.
I beg to differ; nobody gives a rat's patoot about Alan Keyes.
GOOD idea and let us know his opinion.
Snort!
Bush never said he would veto state level stuff. He said he would veto a congressional bill stopping the sale. The states are still free to do what they want.
We are already in a war not of our choosing. But our only choice now is to fight for victory. I'll be damned if our leaders will do backroom deals with our enemies for dollar gain while our troops are fighting them on the frontlines of the GWOT.
