ping...interesting read IMO.
This is history's challenge to Islam.
Expecting muslims to reform themselves and islam? How naive of them.
I have read Democracy in America, and it is not so negative on religion as one might believe from reading this.
However, it is clear that he believed America functioned so well partly because the church had its role and the government did not interfere.
Hey BR...I don't any sane person expects islam to reform. Islam is antithetical to democracy! And when sharia is introduced into any of these new "so-called" islamic democracies...democracy will be transformed into a standard islamic republic, IMHO.
this comment by the frenchmen is pretty prophetic, that is for sure:
"That alone, among a thousand reasons," he wrote, "is enough to show that Islam will not be able to hold its power long in ages of enlightenment and democracy, while Christianity is destined to reign in such ages, as in all others."
It is true that during the early dark ages, the Islamic world was the world of science, philosophy, and enlightenment. However, that changed with the closing of itjihad (basically critical thinking in Islam) around 1200 or so. After that, the Islamic world became rather dark, and it has only gotten worse as the decades go by. I think that unfortunately, it will still get worse to the point that the West may have to more directly go after the entire Middle East.
I am afraid you are right...200 years ago, the west would have the luxury of waiting. But with nukes in the mix...I don't think we have even 6 months to waste.
But I wish the west would clearly ID the enemy and develop a strategy accordingly. Part of the problem must be dealt with militarily, but part of the war is, I think, going to be fought with information, propaganda...and cartoons?
...democracy will be transformed into a standard islamic republic, IMHO.
Just look at "Palistine" and the election of Ham-ass by the ba$tard popultaion to support position. Which further proves an often over-looked point:
Islam is a political movement vieled as a religion in order to avoid scutiny.
Support your position.
Forgot "your". Oh well...
I suggest the Prez and Condi do more freeping and less talking to technocrats.
I didn't even noticed...reading between the lines is good and bad. It is good when I read between the lines of what you have written...not so nice when I no longer see the errors in my own writing.
I no longer see the errors in my own writing.
I seem to refer to my mistakes as "Haste Posting". Meaning: If I don't get this out now the world will end!
I love the rewrite but there is no time for it on FR...which I think is a good discipline for writing first drafts of anything.

Did any of you all see this?

Link failed, so here's another.
So where is the outrage of "moderate" Muslims over the way the suicide bombers invoke the name of Muhammed on behalf of the slaughter of innocents?
Oy, Suzanne...psssst...over here, behind the door where no one can hear me...I hate to tell you this, but the reason no muslim ever complained about the behaviour of terrorists, is...(drumroll here) BECAUSE ALL THEY ARE DOING IS EMULATING MOHAMMAD!
I am actually beginning to agree with Saddam..."it takes a real @sshole to rule a muslim country" (paraphrased, of course).
Release Slobo!
I think it might be a good idea to rethink the past using a new template...one in which islam is seen for the evil it is. "Noble religion," in-frikken-deed.
