Good morning.
"Funny how Hollywood has not made any good war movies with the USA as the good guys."
I'm sorry you missed "Saving Private Ryan". Even though Spielberg is a screaming liberal and probably meant to send an antiwar message, he goofed and made a superb war movie.
Band Of Brothers really can't be beat and The Great Raid was as good as anything made during the war it portrayed.
Proving your point was Thin Red Line. It was a good story which had excellent cinematography but the director mangled the story. He tried to turn the movie into art and failed miserably.

This movie is propaganda. Busey and Zane sold out.

Actually, Thin Red Line played out almost exactly like the book. Mailer included many references to homosexuality among the troops, anti-war and anti-heroic actions and even included an evangelical minister getting popped in combat. Most of this wasn't included in the film. The movie was fairly close to the book, IMO. You're right though, it was artfully done!
Needed less artsy and more fartsy.

Only a clueless lib could rationalize playing the role of a sociopathic murderer, which glorifies violence, while claiming to be a pacifist.
Only a clueless Hollywierd lib could justify participating in a liefest propaganda piece that will likely inflame further anti-American violence and cause casualties, as we have already been witness to, and claim to be a pacifist.
Zane & Busey are C-list azzhats.

Good morning.
"Actually, Thin Red Line played out almost exactly like the book"
I don't remember the guy played by Jesus Christ being much of a sympathetic character in the book, but it's been a few years and I could be mistaken.
I thought the director should have included the scene where the soldier goes out beyond the lines at night to take a crap and has to bludgeon a Japanese soldier who comes upon him. It would have played out well for the camera.
I would read the book gain, but I stopped reading Mailer when I became politically aware.

I would read the book gain, but I stopped reading Mailer when I became politically aware. Good call. I powered through it soon after Private Ryan came out, along with several other WWII novels/books. Of all the scenes cut or not filmed, the one with the soldier [Pvt. Doll, I think.] taking a crap was one I thought would be included!

I don't remember Jesus as a character - maybe I'm confused. The guy I am referring to is the elderly lieutenant in the book [not in the film] that came up to the hill with the West Pointer [played by Cusack in the film]. He was weak and out of place and died most ignominiously. I'm sure symbolic of something....

Good morning.
"I don't remember Jesus as a character"
The actor who portrayed Jesus in Passion Of the Christ played the main character in Thin Red Line. He was finally caught and killed by the Japanese in a scene I don't remember from the book.
There were many scenes in the movie I don't remember from the book but, hey, I'm old and the memory is going.
While we are talking about Hollywood and war movies, how about Hamburger Hill and 84 Charlie Mopic?

Oh yeah, James Caviezel. Now I remember. That scene was in the book. His character was one that seemed to translate rather well, IMO. Chilling scene in book and movie.
Hamburger Hill was excellent, but I've never seen 84 Charlie Mopic . Heading to IMDb right now...
Looks like it has good reviews. Like the user comment: "Better than the Blair Witch Project". LOL
I'm going to check this one out. Thanks!

I have received a friendly correction via FReepmail:
Squirrel King,
"The Thin Red Line" = James Jones
http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/jjones.htm
Norman Mailer = "The Naked and the Dead" http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/nmailer.htm
Thanks, FRiend!

How embarrassing! You've got to love people who are nice enough to correct you privately. Oh well, I've already I'm admitted growing senile.
Now that I think about it, I don't remember James Jones getting any criminals freed from prison so that they could stab some poor sap to death so maybe I will read the book again.

Funny how Hollywood has not made any good war movies with the USA as the good guys. WWII had hundreds of pro American war movies...
They could make a movie about the Turkish genocide in Armenia. Muslims were cutting off heads long before Al Qaeda.

I knew I had read somewhere that Bruce was involved somehow with the pro-American agenda! I think there was also talk of him making a movie that would shut people up about how bad this war is. Anyway, this just goes to show you that not EVERYONE in Hollywood is a moron. WTG Senise and Willis!!!
BRUCE WILLIS TELLS RITA COSBY HE WILL OFFER $1 MILLION TO ANY CIVILIAN WHO TURNS IN OSAMA BIN LADEN, AYMAN AL-ZAWAHIRI OR ABU MUSAB AL-ZARQAWI
Secaucus, NJ - November 11, 2005 -- In an interview that aired last night on MSNBC's "Rita Cosby: Live and Direct" (9 p.m. ET), actor Bruce Willis told Cosby he would offer one million dollars to any civilian who would turn in Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri or Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Willis talks to Cosby about his support for embedded blogger Michael Yon, and the actor says he is in talks about a possible film about the Deuce Four, the soldiers Yon is embedded with in Iraq.
Following is the complete transcript of the interview. "Rita Cosby: Live and Direct" airs weeknights from 9 - 10 p.m. ET. Angie Dorr is the executive producer.
