What's this "throwaway" they keep talking about?

Is this snowboarding an event where you can throw out your low score or something?

Do we have any skaters in the final?

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. They skate so close to each other and are constantly crossing in front of one another.

I remember when the athletes weren't even known before the olympics....and it was a team thing.

Earlier today I heard about the figure skaters competing in "The Worlds". I hadn't thought about all these skaters having so much contact with each other and being so familiar with the others' abilities and routines.

It made me wonder when these world competitions came about. How much harder it must have been in the old, old days when (I imagine) competitors were going into the competition with little idea of who the Russian skaters would be or what their skills were.

Yeah, they can get rid of the low score.

You're asking ME??? LOL

It seems they get to keep "qualifying" til they "qualify".

It's a throwaway when you crash. How many other chances one gets is a mystery. Sorry....

I don't have a clue.

Ohno needs to shave his chin. He is saying that the other skater made contact with him first, throwing him off balance.

Thanks (and to all above, too!) - I'll try the towel thing. I've been drinking every hot fluid I could think of, from hot cocoa to spiced cider, plus my chicken soup I made early in this siege, but nothing is helping.

Eye sockets feel like they're on fire, so I was tending to want to go with cold compresses, but maybe warm is exactly right. Ugh, have to get up and go do that. May be a while, but I'll get there! Thanks again.

I'm not sure I'd like a last name like Ho-Suk.

He may have great athletic ability, but .. as a man .. he's not impressed me at all. Intentionally misses inspections, does what he pleases .. he's on the USA team, for heaven's sake, but I guess it's all about him.

"but I guess it's all about him."

Which is unfortunately an attitude which permeates much of society today. An attitude which is as rotten and childish as it gets.
