Chesty Puller is an icon. My friend had tags on his car that read, "GNCPWYA"...
Which stood for, "Good night Chesty Puller, Wherever you are!"

One of his best quotes..."All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind us...they can't get away this time."

"Good night Chesty Puller, Wherever you are!"" Jarhead ping.
We said that every night as we hit the rack in boot camp. I wonder if they still do that.

My friend was a bit older - but he probably mumbles it to himself at lights out every night to this day.
I certainly hope they still do - anyone know?

Sorry to hear of her passing, but she must have been ready to see the greatest marine, Chesty Puller. His home was in a tiny town here in Virginia, Saluda, on the Northern Neck, near the Chesapeake.
The book, Marine, his biography, still rings in my ears, though it has been forty years at least since I read it.
God Speed Mrs. Puller.

That would be a good question to ask a young Marine. I was in boot camp in 1970. It's been a while since I was young.

General Puller was a Marine's Marine. Perhaps THE Marine, IMHO.

Wonderful quote!
May you find peace now Mrs. Puller. What a strong and compassionate woman she must have been. We owe her a debt of gratitude and respect for her many sacrifices she must have made. I wonder what Chesty was like to live with?
