It worked for Reagan.Being a Hollywood star had nothing to do with that, I'm sure. Besides, it's not like Tancredo's reached the peak of his renown, much as I'm sure you'd prefer otherwise.

you see...
I think that for him to advance the issue he will need to avoid non-positive outcomes like getting blown away in a primary.
At least I hope he sees it that way.

It certainly didn't have anything to do with anything in 1976 now did it?

So in other words you acknowledge that the people of his district made a free, unmanipulated choice when they reelected him. So tell me how they were "betrayed" again?

My guess is that it wont be a hot issue. "Comprehensive immigration reform" will have passed and everything will be fine. It will be a hot issue again when the first crop of "Guest Workers" decide they dont need to go home. It will really be too late by them and well just have to ride out the slow slide into EU style integration with mexico.

That, and the fact that he'd already been governor of California, were no doubt responsible for his candidacy attracting as much attention as it did in that year.

I wouldnt waste a presidential vote on him but the guy is a solid conservative. Hated and reviled for one reason and one reason alone. Immigration.

Oh wait that might show my "vapidity" againYou tell me. Are you able to ponder how it is that these "betrayed" people would have brought themselves to reelect him? If not, then don't feel bad, because that'd be good for at least another $50.

"Betrayed" is your cross to bear, not mine. I merely point out - entirely correctly and without refutation, I might add - that Tancredo is a known liar who has a provable history of breaking his word when it's expedient for him to do so. But hey, he's your guy and you don't have a problem with that, so what do you care what I think?

So youll think theyll all leave when their time is up? You dont see how our countries are moving towards integration? No the sky isnt falling and it wouldnt fall if/when integration happens. Just not something I wouldnt like and I would think most conservatives wouldnt like.

So if you make a mutual promise with someone that both of you depend on, and the other guy breaks it, you still consider yourself obligated to him? Especially when there's a lot at stake, involving more than just you?

Just curious. What solution to the illegal alien problem are you proposing?

Thanks for the reply, MM. I knew I could get some answers out of you. ;^)
>>>>I think the border issue should have been addressed as a national security issue right after 9/11.
Agreed. Right after 9-11 I called for the borders to be sealed shut and a 2-3 years moratorium on ALL immigration. I sincerely hope Bush`s luck holds out. If there is another attack on the US homeland and its traced to terrorists crossing the wide open borders, Bush will be fried by the left, by the right, and everyone in between.
I agree with you about the education and the highway bill. However, for conservatives, there has been a lot more downside to the Bush Presidency.
Creating a massive prescription drug benefit, increasing funds for the NEA and NPR, nationalizing airport security, signing the anti free speech McCain-Feingold CFR into law, supporting McCain's torture bill, advancing backdoor amnesty for illegals, supporting affirmative action before the Supreme Court, signing off on a huge farm bill, energy bill and transportation bill, NO VETOES, over 15,000 pork barrel spending earmarks and doubling the Education budget. These aren't signs of a conservative POTUS at work.

It was Tancredo's word.
If he was truly about principles, he wouldn't have run.
But he decided otherwise.
It will be brought up again.
I gave all of the money back. I felt that the guy I was betting with was playing at a disadvantage since he isn't a FReeper.
