Interestingly enough, the Republican Caucus of the California state legislature is holding a retreat in Thousand Oaks, not too far from the Reagan library. So it's only a matter of time before some DUer blames the fires on the Republicans.
Real solid reporting, huh?
There's apparently two fires, one near the 118, already out, and one north of Pepperdine, which they're hoping to knock down before the coastal effect burns off. That'd put the second fire south of Coral Canyon, north of Malibu Canyon, and loosely in the vicinity of Latigo Canyon road. So all of those are similar descriptions. Lord knows where they're getting the Kanan-Dume description from, unless it's just the next big road to the north, so they picked it for that reason.
Are you getting lots of smoke Brad's Gramma??So far here in Eagle Rock we are fine.
You can blame one of those fires on Harry "the Torch "Biswell, but I don't think even he advocated controlled USFS burns during Santa Ana conditions.
That's beautiful country GLC. Is that near the Hocking Hills?
With Southern California's high desert climate, all that brush and those beautiful trees would represent a significant fire hazard.
As it is, I heard that Southern Ohio has had a few big cat sightings.
And that it's a wonderful place to live. :-)
One more for the inventoried list: just prior to my hitting the Off button one of the reporters said:
"Again, the fire is near Malibu Canyon south of the 101 Ventura Freeway, but there are no homes there."
They are all over the map in the talent category this morning.
Maybe we ought to just go to "Fire in California, we're all going to die" and get it over with.
ROFL!
They are pouring a lot of assets into Latigo Cyn....
1 Ventura County and 2 LAFD strike teams enroute, to join the LA County Fire Strike teams. Also 4 or 5 helos dropping water....
Excellent! I was just thinking how resource-rich the county is, and how it can send help to OC and still have county fires covered. The real problem's usually with the later fires, once the resources are depleted. This afternoon into the evening will be "cross your fingers" time.
Do you know whether CDF has been able to give them an overhead 'fire boss', or an air tanker or two?
I just bought some marshmallows !! Who wants to join me?
In Malibu, no.....the news is reporting that there is no flame at this time....that they are just staging in case it reignites with the 50mph winds forecast.
I believe it started on National Park land (Santa Monica National Mtn Rec Area) so they might have some assets up there, but I havent heard any...just LA and Ventura County.
