The UCLA/Notre Dame game had a lousy call to decide the game.
Officiating has been pathetic across the board this year.
Kind of means you have to win by three touchdowns to be assured of not being robbed.

Actually I played football from the time I was 8. The ref should signal in a tmely matter. I don't know why he would need extra time to think about something he saw. It was an exceptionally long time to signal. You and Big Ben are probably from the same town in Ohio. Don't pretend like you were neutral in this game. Stop posting to me.

If you watch the play frame by frame you will see the ball crosses the line in mid air and is brought back as he hits the ground. I agree, but if that is what the side judge saw, he didn't do a very good job of selling the call. In the final analysis he made have simply swerved into the correct call.

It is a joke. What ever the reason the officiating is unacceptable in major sports. I feel the calls are far too poor to be blamed entirely on incompetence.

And when you reject the theory of the magic bullet...
...you have to accept the premise of the second shooter...
...and two shooters means conspiracy...

LOL. That's SO lame and yet SO expected of someone who didn't have anything else to say or prove his point. I will be glad to stop posting to an absolute idiot believe me.

"In the final analysis he made have simply swerved into the correct call."
I agree, I would not have been able to make that call in real time, but it was the right call.
As Ben said that was their third down and he would have run it in on the fourth down anyway so it really was not that big of a deal.

Hey, listen man, football is now, and for a long time, has been as phony as rasslin'. The game is rigged and there is no beating the riggers.

Pathetic that so many freepers feel the need to resort to personal attacks rather than sticking to their opinions about the calls.

It was a gift, Rots--burger, who I like as a player, was downed in the playing field and he later pushed the ball over like a guilty schoolboy.
The rule needs to be changed so the whole ball crosses the plane and is downed within the end-zone, and in possession of the player. These bad called half/asssed cheap touchdowns are ruining the game.
To: brainstem223
No its not part of the game... The rushing "touchdown" by the steeler quarterback was obviously short. He landed short, but probably did break the plane. I will agree that it is an impossible call to make in the pile of bodies and I doubt if the ref actually saw the ball break the plane. What the ref saw was Ben had nudged the ball over the line after he was down. What the replay showed is that Ben might have broken the plane with the ball just prior to hitting the ground.

"was downed in the playing field and he later pushed the ball over like a guilty schoolboy."
The ball had already crossed the plane before he hit the ground. He did push it over the line after he was down but it did not matter by then because he had already scored the touchdown.
The ref saw it that way on his first call and again in the replay and you will see it also if you have the ability to view it frame by frame.
"The rule needs to be changed so the whole ball crosses the plane and is downed within the end-zone"
Yeah that is the idea, your team loses so now we need to change the rules. That is what Al Gore would recommend also.
To: brainstem223
What they have now is any part of the ball nudges the plane its a TD. That is too hard to officiate properly with the dimwits for refs that were on the field!!! How hard would it be to put three RF transponders in the football (one at each end and one at the center of the laces) and then have field-mounted antennas to track its position?

I don't like that ... keep the human element in the game. Win/Lose/Draw.
