I assume this means that the Indian tribes are making too much money on NON-federal taxed ciggies?
;^)
Spitzer is out of control.
UPS stock rises 4% on the news.
I hope they're raking it in hand over fist.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Next we'll be sending alphabet boys in black pajamas busting into residences and hauling folks away just like we do with other herbal products....
They are raking it in if some of my smoker friends are any indication.
Awww, poor wittle powiticians not getting fat off smoker tax dollars anymore?
Our rulers cannot abide such disrespect to them.
I assume that this is a controversy about collecting sales and other taxes on cigarettes. As far as I'm concerned, the location of the business - not the residence of the purchaser - is the point of sale, and only the point of sale taxes should apply. I am very opposed to the idea of a "use tax," in which states impose a sales tax on out-of-state purchases.
If I had the money, I'd start a exclusive Tobacco shipping company. Blackbird.
contraband= untaxed cigarettes.
soon contraband = anything without taxes.
This too will fail.
How can this happen, isn't there freedom of trade between the States?
FedEx couldn't trip over themselves fast enough to help distribute videos to school children that promote the homosexual lifestyle, however.
"...freedom of trade between the States?"
Free as long as the feds get their piece of the action.
The FedEx agreement is part of a continuing effort to end the sale and shipment of contraband cigarettes over the Internet and through the mails. Internet and mail order cigarette retailers operate in violation of numerous federal, state and local laws, including tax laws, age verification laws, delivery restrictions, reporting requirements, and federal wire fraud and mail fraud statutes
This whole thing bothers me. Why are cigarettes contraband, they are still legal. This is all about collecting taxes. What a shame that we have let the politicians get away with this crap. I never thought the day would come when ordering a carton of cigs over the net would make me and the organization delivering them criminals. Pathetic!
That's now. Wait till he becomes NY governor! You ain't seen nothing yet.
You can FedEx ammunition, propellants, controlled prescription drugs, some radioactive materials, human body parts, and any number of other ugly stuff; but you can't ship cigarettes.
The black market just received another enhancement.
Cigarrrretttes today, food tomorrow (dangeruous, makes ppppeople fat)
