It is impossible to see how the cartoon wars have nudged the larger struggle in the right direction.
It has further clarified the dividing battle line between western civilization and islam, for those whose vision is as weak as their intellect. By that, I mean people like European and American leftists.

I like it much better than Indonesian Muslim cartoons...

But the right to free speech does not exist in isolation from other values, such as empathy and respect. Three items - ALL of which are two-way streets.

I think the burning of France last summer might have had more to do with the sudden ferociousness of Europe than September 11 ever did, not to mention the London bombings.
September 11 was a largely Anglo-American affair. People forget that the Brits lost over 300 in the attacks, their largest single-day loss of life since WWII, and 10% of the total.
We have predicted here that the French wouldn't get serious until it was the Eiffel Tower. Well, the ROP didn't get the Tower, but they burned a lot and were threatening to move into the city center and burn it. I think that woke a lot of people who had still been asleep, dreaming multicultural dreams and singing "We Are The World."

Victory could mean a new form of Islam, comfortable with secularism, pluralism, dissent and women's rights. If this were to happen, they would not be able to call it Islam any more.

I respect other religions even if I do not follow them. Hey, the Buddists were very tolerant when the Taliban blew up their ancient statues in Afghanistan. That must have really hurt them to see the image that they respect so much being disfigured. But I didn't see Buddists rioting and killing. It made me respect the Buddists even more because they have a handle on their belief and do not take the actions of a few out on so many others.
Those of us who follow the Christian faith had good cause to be offended with a crucifix in a jar of urine or a painting of the Virgin Mary with elephant dung on her. I was plenty worked up. However, my faith tells me to turn the other cheek. I cannot respect a religion where a great many of the followers believe that killing, suicide etc. is the way to salvation. I just do not accept it.

Time for America to harden it's immigration policies.
Every year hundreds of thousands are granted visas to work in the United States and or obtain an education.
Many of the H1 visa holders enter US residencies as doctors.
Many of these H1 visa holders have a very anti-American view of this country.
A few foreign countries are starting to dominate these residency programs to the detriment of the medical profession.
For instance doctors from India dominate most every residency program where IMG's are allowed to practice medicine.
They do this by taking jobs as program directors jobs and then making sure that other IMG residency jobs are filled by fellow countrymen.
Sort of like the take over of the motel industry.
It's time to take a long hard look at who we let into this country.
