I'm so happy our banks, our corporations, our State Department and our President, not to mention all the other dolts in positions of power in the US and Europe have created an unstoppable mess.
The Russians are sure paying a high price for Robert Hanssen's treasonous espionage. The Russians might have had an opportunity to destroy the KGB after the collapse of the Soviet regime.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Absolutely correct. It is called "reverting to the norm".
Find a way to make oil and natural gas irrelevant, and Putin's $$$ evaporates.
In the meantime, keep your powder dry.
I don't trust the Russians to do anything other than act like Russians.
I don't care if Russia plays its geopolitical games- that's what Russia has always done. This can't be compared to the Cold War, though because back then there was a realistic chance that the USSR would try to overrun Western Europe, resulting in a nuclear war. These games are child's play in comparison.
Uh oh, TJ-- you're gonna piss off the putin bootlickers!!!

uh.....so you dont care if russia armed iraq before the war , those weapons and radar jamming equip were used to kill american soldiers? you dont care if they sell weapons to venezuela or syria? selling missile technology to iran that could help create a nuclear threat to europe? selling air defense systems to iran?
my god, what world are you living in when you can excuse such acts as "childs play"?
"Treachery: How America's Friends and Foes are Secretly Arming Our Enemies", by Bill Gertz is also an interesting book. This well respected reporter says that 11 million arms (over 100 different types) were sold to Iraq by Russia before the war. THese weapons killed our troops.

Shutting off fuel to Europe is tantamount to war. What difference does it make if society is shut down by lack of fuel vs armed invasion?

I probably shouldn't have said "don't care" - a better word is "resigned to it." We don't have any effective leverage to exercise over Russia. That being the case, Russia is going to do whatever brings in money to Russia, whether that means selling military technology or whatever. And while those things disturb me, they disturb me less than the thought of 5,000 nuclear warheads detonating within the continental US- a realistic Cold War scenario.
Agree about russia, but how is it that the chicoms stay off everyones radar in these scenarios?
china is on my radar as well.
some here will ignore/excuse their threat all in the name of "free trade"
Russia just dosen't want to accept the fact that it lost the Cold War and is no longer a superpower.
That's what I'm talking about for some time recently. And Mr Bush had mentioned in his last State of the Union speech the task of making the technology of artificial (or was it synthetoc?) oil and the ethanol fuel economically viable.
Indeed, even the Germans in the WW2 used some sort of syntetich petrol, which means that the task of the day isn't even to invent something absolutely new, but to improve an existing technology.
And this would take not solely Putin, but also West's very own Saudis and other petrol-sucking diaperheads out of the game...
... this is a very dangerous game.
Oh, but there is an 'obvious' solution to this problem: prevent Israelis from any action (as it happend numerous times when they caught their enemies by the b@lls) and cozy up to the Jihadists... [/sarcasm]
I'm talking coal and natural gas, biomass fuels, lotsa lotsa lotsa NUCLEAR power, fuel cells, PVC (except here in Oregon). We need to cut down on the $$$ we spend on imported petroleum.
We can do it, too, but it will take someone with brass stones to kick the sh*t outta the GDmnd greenie-weenies. Maybe we make energy independence a matter of national security, then throw the greens in jail if they try to obstruct us?!
Stellar, you sold your soul to al-Qaeda when you started defending the Chechen terrorists who are lead by them.
Stellar isn't right to perform a personal attack, but so are you.
Don't you have anything to say on the substance of the posted article, Gary? You're an expert on things Russian and security matters.
I do remember your staunch opposition when I said that to be a former KGB-man is as possible as to be an ex-Negro... and now Col. Putin told it himself...
