I can't remember all the details but apparently Waylon Jennings was with this tour group and wasn't on the plane. Apparently he said to Holly, which he always regretted, in response to Holly joking about the cold bus he'd be on that he hoped his plane crashed - all in jest but tragic nevertheless.
