I have just been waiting for them to take one of those little guppies for a test drive...
I think that that's about right.
and
5. Terrorists wouldn't take out a group of Muslims returning from "The Haj". (Unless perhaps they could easily blame it on us.)
LOL...
I truly believe that it was the Salam (Salaam) 89 which is not top heavy and looks more like a ferry.
I think there are two different ships in the bottom picture, one in fron tof the other. The ferry is in the front and a cruise ship is in the back, but looks superimposed over the ferry.

Add 'water' and you've got it!
That funky lookin ship really is one ship. But it is, apparently, not the same ship as the first one I posted. Sorry for the confusion.
My old Naval Architecture professor used to say, if it looks right, it probably is right. That ship just doesn't "look right" to me.
But I'd imagine ferries have their own set of dangers even though they aren't topheavy. What'd scare me the most would be the roll-on/roll-off doors (assuming it's a drive-on car ferry as seen in Europe) in heavy weather. If something damages one of those, it's over.
Gotta admit, I love going to the beach or out on the lake, but I'm not much of a mariner. I got nervous just being on the tour boats around Charleston (SC) harbor and heading to Fort Sumter. :)

Was it a drive on ferry? If so I wouldn't rule out massive car bomb combined with rough seas equal immediate sinking.
And may I just say, the Al Salam 95 is a monstrosity. Looks like they glued two or three different ships together to make it. I think I'd rather be on the topheavy 98 in bad weather than that thing.

Pirates involved?. Attack ship, cause panic, everyone goes to one side, it capsizes. That's my final answer.
Or, more likely, Israel.
Not all Muslims are created equal, you know. If some need to be slaughtered for the greater good, so be it. Right, Zarqawi?
I would say that most Severe Thunderstorms have a dampening effect on the sea state.
Ad that unless they were parking their cars in their cabins this ship wasn't extremely top heavy.
I haven't read about the sister ship yet since there is still so debate over which ship this one was.
and the Insurer stands to lose $$$$ of course they would say it is a piece of junk they have to pay for it's loss.
By the way did you see the weather satellite picture posted already on this thread, clear weather in the area with scattered clouds
