How about giving everyone loads of acidolpholus? That replaces the good bacteria destroyed by the antibiotics.

I almost always take probiotics (Acidophilus, etc) when I am prescribed antibiotics. It seems to do the trick- I give them to the kids, too, to reduce diarrhea when they get put on antibiotics. You can eat yogurt with cultures to get them, but I usually just buy the capsules in the health food section.

That has been recommended to me by surgeons, bacteriologists, and pharmacists.

Common bacteria are becoming antibiotic resistant due to the over use of antibiotics. The last time I had any was after a surgery about four years ago. The last time before that had to be about 20 years earlier. My intestinal bacteria should be nice and vulnerable to antibiotic attack.

c. diff is also high in those patients who take proton pump inhibitors. the lack of stomach acid allows the growth of the bacteria.

those on nexium and prevecid also are at a higher risk of getting pneumonia since the stomach acid isn't there to kill the pathogen
