This jerk was appointed in 1998 to a fifteen year term.

Another beady-eyed Clintonista. Great! No wonder this "report" is a one-sided screwup.

Why didn't they drive them away?

I heard today that Chertoff has said that he WILL respond to this.

Nine pages? Nine pages should barely be enough to cite all the regulations and MOAs that govern the operations of FEMA.

I call POS on this report.

I hope so...this is the most ridiculous case of scapegoating I have seen...

I heard that weasel Nagin being questioned by Carl Levin...and he was being "given" the answers that would implicate the Bush Administration in their charges..

I am really STUNNED that this Katrina thing has taken this life of its own...

My goodness, it was a hurricane for goodness sakes...I dare say that if KERRY had been POTUS, it STILL would have hit New Orleans..and the levees STILL would have broken..

CIIW, didn't Federal response teams get to ground zero within the time frame generally prescribed for in the FEMA MOAs?

Could someone tell me--was the federal Katrina relief sub par? What is the expected response time to a hurricane? What has it been in the past? Are they considering the face the Katrina disaster was the largest in area in history?

I have never heard facts which document the supposed federal failure. I know they were responding by Wednesday. The levees broke late on Monday. The local levee authority is responsible for maintaining them.

"As a result, the federal response generally was to wait for the affected states to request assistance," the report found.

Ummmm ... Can the Federal Governemtn just come in and take control of a State??

Asked by FEMA's Brown if Louisiana had any unmet needs at that point, or if there were anything else the federal government could provide, Smith said: "Mike, no."

Soooooooooo it's Brown's fault because the said he didn't need more help??

I heard on a newsbreak tonight...that Hillary called today for an "independent commission" to look into Katrina..

My goodness...they have been having these hearings for 3 months...and all they are going to do is railroad the Bush Administration...which is EXACTLY what she wants an "independent commission" to do...so why is that necessary...

This is gonna be enough to get added to the Impeach Bush list...

BTW...did you hear about that group that is having a press conference tomorrow at the National Press Club...to reveal their "findings" that Bush should be impeached...for "crimes against humanity"??

The group...Michael Ratner, Scott Ritter, Janice Karpinski..and some other losers..

As far as I know...but, dang...even common sense tells the dumbest American that there is NO WAY that the FEDERAL government should be at fault for this...sheesh

We kept hearing at the time of the storm...that aid, supplies and other things had to be requested and authorized by the Governor...and she kept wanting to "wait"...

Remember all of those boats and stuff...I KNOW at the time, it was not blamed on the FEDS that they didn't go help...but, I DO REMEMBER that those that did go in were getting shot at...

Where is the blame for the actual citizens of New Orleans??

September 12, 2005 Blanco Screws Up With Troops - Proof on Camera! (VIDEO)

There is a shot where Blanco is being set up several days ago for a TV interview, and her press secretary is helping her adjust her mic. They’re having a personal conversation, but the cameraman catches it!! In it, she kinda jokes to her press secretary something like “yeah, well I guess I really need to ask for troops,” and a couple more things she says. A bit later in hte segment she gets into a semi-argument with Miles O’Brien, and he’s pointedly asking her exactly WHEN she asked the President for troops. She gets frustrated and says she didn’t even know what day it was the, she was confused, but Miles presses her.

DOWNLOAD and view video here.

He's Brown's boss and wasn't Brown's boss in 2004 when all the Hurricane's in Florida went off without a hitch; of course in Florida they had Jeb and in LA they had Naggin and Blank-0.

I don't like Chertoff, haven't from day one and still wish Kerick had gotten the job.

The White House and Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff failed to provide decisive action

In a related story, the mayor who failed to mobilize busses to get people out and those people who failed to get out with 4 days notice of approach were given a pass for their stupidity.

What happened to congress/senate doing their jobs? This "independent" commission stuff is pure cr@p and I, for one, am sick of it! That's what we pay them for and it's time they get their faces out of the nearest camera and get about doing their jobs; for example: the house only extended the Patriot Act until March... Why?

If Shillary wants a commission I say we get one to do an honest investigation into her days in the Whitehouse and try her and slick Willie for all their illegal dealings once and for all....

Kerick is the reason that Kerick didn't get the job.

I know that and I'm still disappointed because he would have been superior to Chertoff (IMHO)... I think we need someone in Homeland Security with a few rough edges, not an accountant or attorney.

Nagin is right about the 9/11 just being a few city block. Its a lot easier to get help to a few city blocks. We are talking about 9,000 sq. miles of damage. From Louisiana, Mississippi and to Alabama. This is much larger area than 9/11. But the Local and State did nothing for there State. It starts with them and then goes to Federal. Louisiana has been given many Federal funds to fix levees and nothing was done to them and money is no where to be found. We here in Mississippi are proud of Governor Barbour. Is everything going great NO but we are getting it done slow but sure. Thank God we have Gov. Barbour, we just got rid a Governor much like Blanco. Spend money but nothing ever got done. So for all of you who wants Gov. Barbour to run for President I say no we need him here in Mississippi thank you very much. I do think he would make a great President but we do not want him to run. I would hate to think what a mess we would be in if we still had Mustgrove as Governor. Haley Barbour hit the ground running when Hurricane hit and was all over Media begging people to get out before it hit coast. And most did including our kids (family of 4). They have just in pass week or so opened up Hwy. 90 along the coast. Our Kids are now back in there home and all damage fixed. For those of you who have not seen it need to come and look at Mississippi. Its still a long way from looking good. We live 3 hours from coast and I have never seen so much damage in a storm here where we live. Most of Mississippi was without power and I mean the whole State not just the coast. There was so many trees down some people here was without power for weeks and some months. We were without for days. We just got our home repaired because most people was at the coast and we could not get a roofer to even come look at our home. It was not damaged but we did have damage. The pictures you see in the Media does not give you good idea what was done to Mississippi. Damage for the coast to top of the State and I mean trees everywhere and Gettysburg and Mederion was also hit very bad. For people to say they did not get there soon enough is wrong. They Local, State and Federal workers had to cut there way to Mississippi coast Hwy. 49 had tress down and no one could get through. Our National Guard (Camp Shelby)on South side of Hattiesburg had to cut there way to coast. They could only drive a few a little way cut trees and then go again all the way to coast. Florance Mississippi which is only a few miles from us was without power for a month or more. Unless you see it with your eyes you could not believe what a mess it was. While we in Mississippi feel sorry for those in Louisiana most of there problems was there Officials. My daughter the first time she went down came back and said there was a piano in a tree. We ask for your prays for all of us here in Mississippi. I was born and raised in Indiana and heard all my live how bad Mississippi was but there are some of niches people here I have met in my live. They do not help people here by color of skin or how rich they are people helping people through bad times. Do bad people live here yes but I'll take Mississippi good people and put them against any people in any State. And we have lived lots of places. People in Mississippi give more to charity (for Ms. income) than any state and I have seen the best of people here that USA has.
