Remember now, these new guest workers are "undocumented", right? That means they'll apply for their amnesty (er...guest worker)with NO documents. Just pick a name! THAT will be the name this government will issue a visa to. What a way for a criminal to gain a new identity with all the priveleges of a "guest worker". Many municipalties allow them to vote, get welfare. What a country!

Salient and often overlooked logic ping!

Why Dubya is leading the mob wanting more illegals is beyond me.

It keeps the campaign coffers full of cheap-labor, corporate money, and panders to the Hispanic vote at the same time. That's why.

Lots of Canadians speak French. So no illegal aliens allowed from Quebec...I get it now!

How about the standard NO ILLEGAL ALIENS. We really don't need to specify their color or what language they speak...or even their country of origin. Let's make everyone come in the proper way...through the FRONT door.

Punishing people for chasing a dream is hard for me to do.

Who's doing this? We are trying to punish people for breaking our laws. Anarchy by any measure diminishes our country. Illegals are not just "chasing a dream" they are breaking laws on a daily basis.

That's great! Glad you came over to our side. :)

Laws are broken everyday, everywhere. If people were serious about real criminals,, it might be different.

We don't have enough room to incarcerate rapists and murderers. Because a Mexican sneaked into the US makes him illegal yes, but a threat, not necessarily.

Just a smokescreen argument to demonize illegals.

I appreciate the questions, but I have been fooling with this thread for damn near five hours. It's interfering with Mark Levin. Feel free to send me a freepmail.

See ya.

And you want to call this "amnesty"? Amnsety is waiving the punishment for a crime. It generally requires the recipient to make themselves "right" with the law.

The illegals are here illegally. The punishment for that crime is deportation on a first offense and it is a felony on the second offense. The way to get "right" with the law is to quit being here illegally. In other words, leave. Beyond being here illegal, many aliens are also guilty of numerous other crimes including our employment laws, tax evasion, driving illegally, identity theft and identity fraud, and the list goes on.

President Bush is proposing forgiving all of these crimes that would cause serious grief if a citizen got caught committing them. Rather than fining them for their many crimes and deporting them for coming illegally as the law would require he is proposing to reward them with legal status. It is temporary status but it is most definitely a get out of jail free card. You bet it is amnesty!

What better way to find the illegals and create a papertrail with their names and other personal data, than to offer them a "temporary worker card".

Who cares what there names are? Building this paper trail is just going to be an expensive bureaucratic mess and they are going to lie about their identities anyway. Let's just make them leave. There are 11 million of them! They are everywhere; they are simple to find and having their names and addresses is not going to make it any easier. We have the names and addresses of the 300,000 Central Americans and that is not making it any easier to get them to go home.

I think if we fined each and every employer of illegals $2000 per illegal per day, our problem would be solved. Give parking offenders 6 months of amnesty and put all parking cops onto Migra detail, and every city's coffers would be full in a month. In some neighborhoods you could get $1 million in 3 city blocks, just finding the nannies and gardeners.

Next, they have to show papers of legal residency or they can't: bank, attend school, and get any medical care but life-and-death.

They will all deport themselves.

I've always been on your side....I just didn't want it to become an issue of race or culture, it makes us look like nazi's.

It's about the law...about letting in the elements of other societies that benefit ours. If you don't benefit us we don't want you...plain and simple! :)

Sorry I forgot the < /sarcasm> in my last post. A smiley always helps too.

You are definitely on to something. You can't speak english...you can't do business. You can't speak english...you can't go to school. No drivers license? ...you can't drive. No green card?..you can't work.

We might see a rise in crime for a while, but they'll quit coming in in droves.

Speaking of breaking laws. In California, there are Illegal Aliens who serve time in jail and get released and there are no immigration people there to escort them across the border.

I don't think, however, that most people are disputing the fact that we won't be able to send the guest workers home when their time runs out. We certainly know where most of the illegals are NOW, we know where to find them, where they live and where their children go to school... and what difference does that make? Nada.

Most WashDC-Beltway politico's don't want to address the immigration issue and that includes the head honcho of the GOP, the leader of the Republican Party, President George W.Bush. OTOH. A vast majority of Americans want serious immigration reform. About 80% oppose amnesty. 65%-70% of Americans want the borders secured, employers punished and welfare handouts halted. There is also majority support for the Feds to build a border barrier and use the military to assist the BP until more agents can be trained.

Social Security reform remains the third rail of American politics. PresReagan was the first POTUS to advance the idea of private SS accounts. He had top settle for the Greenspan Commission.

The Dems may have SS firmly as their issue, for now. But on immigration reform, Americans are demanding action, right now. Most Americans support the Patriot Act.

Dang. It was going well till you brought up the nazis. It's hard enough to have to endure that misplaced sobriquet when dealing with liberals but when our own start using it against people who simply want the laws and our border enforced it gives them the idea that they may be right.

So, please don't use that term unless you actually come across people kicking in doors and shuffling people off to ovens.

Other than that we agree. :)

Come to New England pissant... but learn Brazilian first. We got people dumping a handful of change on the counter when they buy gas yelling out... “Dees much!”

Brazilian, huh?

Yeah, I know it is incendiary, and I knew better than to hit post. That's why I didn't capitalize it...it's a word that deserves NO respect EVER!

I couldn't think of another term besides racist and I'd already used that one. I guess I'd best be increasing my vocabulary.

I want more from President Bush on this issue, but like I said, I do not fault him entirely for why we haven't solved the problem

See this post #259 It may explain Bush's lack of action.

I got an email from Ken Mehlman last night with the entire text of the President's message.

I sent him a short polite reply that although I wouldn't vote Democrat, I also am no longer giving the Republicans a free vote until they actually do something about illegal immigration.

I doubt anyone will read it.

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

G.W. Bush.

I couldn't think of another term besides racist and I'd already used that one.

Remember, it was GW who has been looking at this as a cultural/race issue. He has from the very beginning.

By the way, when did we have that debate about his "new America"? I certainly don't remember it.
