Well, both candidates are 73; so I guess age won't be an issue.

He`s not going to come within 30 pts. of DiFi.
Hard to believe there isn`t ONE republican that could win. taking on Feinstein.

A Republican of any decent stature will get to 40%, it's getting that last 10% that gets tricky.

He should trot out the classic Reagan line about not using as an issue her youth and inexperience. ;-)

Dick Mountjoy?

I think he might get some votes in the Bay Area.

I'm sure he was making light of Mr. Mountjoy's name

Great guy, pointless campaign.

He has the integrity to tell it like it is, but few voters will hear because he won't have any money, and any free major media will be either hostile or condescending.

If he's really the nominee, Feinstein will bury him and the MSM and the GOP "leadership" will just say it's further proof that we can only nominate moderates.

So us conservatives should push a "moderate" candidate (a la Tom Campbell) so we can watch him/her go down in flames then.

Or we let Feinswine win uncontested.

Or we back Psycho Cindy Sheehan. :-/

All the options seem to be less-than-satisfactory at this point.

Yes, so far all options are bad. But we can only begin to improve our options by facing that reality. I think there is still time, though very little, for a potentially effective genuine Republican to declare.

Hmm.

Mountjoy.

I have a feeling that Feinstein will simply have her staff go through old copies of the Pasadena Star News and it'll be a short campaign.

But, hey, better than Dreier, I suppose. Tom McClintock would be a better choice, in my opinion.

The San Gabriel Valley's own former Republican state senator, Richard Mountjoy of Monrovia, has announced he will run against US Sen. Diane Feinstein. The 73-year-old Mountjoy is no stranger to politics or controversy.

Nice man but too old. How about Brulte?

30 pts? Methinks you're being generous. He's far too old to start a Senate career now.

Seems to me a 50-something woman of substance and stature would be our ideal candidate. It's a pity Condi has a job.

Disturbing, isn't it? Sheehan is probably a bigger threat to DiFi than a Republican candidate.

Is she really running in the Democrat primary? She doesn't stand a chance!

Any GOP candidate would need to find some Dem support, perhaps by a strong anti-tax platform that is easy to understand? Many Californians benefit from the Bush tax-cuts but will suffer from the alternative minimum tax (now or eventually), and many Californians will have a large tax hike when the temporary tax cuts expire by the end of 2010, as the President reminded everyone last night. It's still possible to appeal to the pocketbooks of middle-class liberals.

Notwithstanding that it probably won't make any difference this year, CA voters registered with no party affiliation (decline to state) can request the ballot of most political parties, including of the Dem and GOP, and vote in their primaries for most offices (but not for the party central committeemembers or for Presidential nominee).

CounterCounterCulture was correct. It was a cheap shot at the man's silly sounding name and the foolish decision not to go with "Richard" or "Rich" or "Bud" or, well, anything else.
