“We trusted their reputation,” Mrs. Burrows said. “It’s supposed to be one of the highest honors in the school system, to go to the Governor’s School.”
From the perspective of those running the school system, attending this school probably IS one of their highest honors.

Not the same thing as Boy's State. I didn't go to that. Boy's State lasts a week, while AGS (started around ~1979) runs for 6 weeks. There is a lot of overlap in attendees -- AGS is held after BS/GS so kids can go to both.
Clinton did come speak to us, though -- accompanied by Secret Service, because he was already the de facto Dem nominee at that point. Other speakers included David Pryor, Dale Bumpers & Jim Guy Tucker (barf).

We successfully talked one of our neighbor's kids out of attending governor's school, and had to put up with the temporary fury of his parents.
