The usual dog and pony show didn't work. Now the ONDCP will have to go back and tune up their presentation so it's not as insulting to the rubes in the sticks.

Medical marihuana doesn't have quite the same lobbying power as Pfizer and Merck. I guess oxycontin is pretty nutritous though.

Yeah, it's hard to make a huge profit on a medicine that you can easily grow in your back yard.

The state Department of Health would administer a program under which doctors would be allowed to recommend marijuana for their patients. The marijuana used in the program would be grown in a secure facility by the state or a private agency contracting with the state. This program will be hard to abuse, unlike California's. The pot advocates can't be too happy about that.

It happens every time a state does this, so I should stop being amazed: WTF is a federal official using our federal tax dollars doing in a state trying to influence its internal legislative matters? Where's a state senator with the balls to tell these out-of-staters to get the hell out?
To: cryptical
If NM wants this, then let them have it. With the drug being grown by the goverment, seems pretty controlled. Basically it seems like a States-rights issue.

Murray told the committee that marijuana is an addictive substance with very serious health consequences , has no proven medical value and can lead to serious mental illness , depression and suicide. One more reason not to use it:

Typical big government hysteria against an herb that has been grown and consumed since the dawn of time.

What a load of BS.

Looks like the pot advocate theme on this thread will be "it's a conspiracy."
That picture reminds me of the long term pot users I've known, rude and angry.

CAUSES dpression suicide, and mental illness? What in the hell evidence has been found that it causes any of these things?

Maybe if NM would grow marijuana along the border, the Bush administration would finally send border agents to police the borders.
The feds have no problem meddling with states' business except when it comes to aprehending and deporting illegal aliens.

Where's a state senator with the balls to tell these out-of-staters to get the hell out? He's in the article: "Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez, D-Belen , took him to task for those words, pointing out that sponsors of crime legislation often bring victims of crimes to testify without being called cynical and manipulative .
I dont know how you do it back East, Sanchez told Murray, But this is the peoples house. Everybody has a right to be here just as much as you do. When you said this to us, you showed us where you were really at. I dont think you should go to a state and say such things about their people."

"police the borders."
That's a good one. They can't make any money off that. That's less profitable than if marijuana replaces some drug that Johnson & Johnson manufactures.

And it's rich in magic and unicorn giggles. Actually, the preferred method of smoking pot is through "blunts," which are hollowed-out cigars, although most people use good-old Zig-Zag cigarette papers.
Nice try at posting a pic that probably represent a miniscule fraction of marijuana users.
