Collecting foreign money is pretty neat. I've only got a Canadian "Loonie" (1 dollar coin) and a Canadian "Toonie" (2 dollar coin), a British pound, and an Australian dollar. That I've collected from internet friends from those respective countries.

And I distinctly remember my dad talking about planes landing.
Did your dad ever talk about riding the train over there?

He was probably stationed at Midway Field, which was a military post before the military disbanded it and turned it over to public use.

I think he trained up there somewhere and then shipped out of Florida.
Gosh, this is embarassing to not know.
Where can I find this out?

Never talked about any of it with us kids. He was sick the last two years. I tried getting my father-in-law's records, he was in Korea, but he was discharged before it got going over there. The records were lost in a fire in 1973 according to NARA Missouri. It listed the years and/or by names alphabetically that records were lost, which included my father's last name, so I'm not hopeful in trying to get his.

I registered my father at wwiimemorial.com, which is why I need his discharge papers, to add more info. There are units, battalions, etc. galore listed, but not knowing which my father was in I didn't know where to begin.

I do know that Midway was a "Military Air Transport Facility" during the Korean war. My grandfather told me one time that his Naval unit flew out of Midway during the Korean War. He didn't see too much combat action, as he was in the Navy and stationed on a vessel off the Korean coast.
Not sure about Florida though.
I had an uncle who served in WWII in a B-17 flying missions over Italy and North Africa, and he was stationed out of Biloxi, MS.

or I'm confusing that with the NARA site, one or both has message boards for veterans and families.

Never talked about any of it with us kids.My mom's father (Korean War veteran) and older brother (Vietnam vet) are like that.
All I know is that my uncle still has some trouble walking from the schrapnel wound he took in the hip, and a high school classmate of my dad's, who was drafted right out of high school, lost his life in Vietnam just 6 weeks short of being rotated out, from friendly fire.

Each one of these, who I would call "saner" Democrats are in the tank with the DUmmies, the MoveOn bozos, and the rest of the leftist kook fringe element in this country. .......... As for Baucus, my father simply said "That a$$hole".My sister (61) said the exact same thing.

my sister's boyfriend made it home, almost. He died of a heroin overdose in Mexico. Hadn't touched that crap before going in. Only 21, an only child. Nearly killed his father, well, probably did, he died 2 yrs. later of a heart attack.

My uncle said he saw plenty of hardcore drug use, but he managed to steer clear of it, even if he was pressured by his peers.
