I am willing to bet that 99.9% of Freepers say such things openly in private conversations and even with group conversations of friends.

I was a preacher for 30 years. I can't begin to tell you how many jokes I told from the pulpit that absolutely bombed because they offended the audience.

For example, I had a bunch of jokes about hillbillies I told while preaching in the city. Then I moved to the hills of Tennessee. They didn't like my jokes about inbreeding and outhouses because, you guessed it, those things were there.

I was forever pulling my foot outta my mouf.

Point is, anybody who talks a lot, for a living, is going to commit a faux pax periodically.

The President referred to the Minutemen as "vigilantes" and hardly a peep was uttered.

she is smart enough not to say something this dumb in public. i saw her similarly goof up on H&C when she made some crack about W drinking (it was during the Miers fiasco). it was uncalled for/meanspirited/page out of the leftist handbook, and i think when she said it she realized it. i have bought into nothing. ann is a smart woman and she doesn't need to sink to the level of the left. this was not necessary. i am not attacking her, i am expressing disappointment with some of the stuff she has said lately.

you cannot equate a family being equated with a family member's goof up, with that of an iconic conservative figure being held representative of the cause. it's disingenuous. i am not saying it's RIGHT to do so, but it is DONE.

FWIW, even Julia Child and Emeril burn casseroles and cakes. It doesn't invalidate their standings as "great chefs."

didn't say a thing about her credentials being affected by this, but she is NOT above reproach and not infallible. she made a mistake, accept that.

She's NOT, nor does she have ANY responsibility in being a diplomat OR walking on egg-shells for fear of telling off-beat jokes.

And to the contrary -- I NEVER said Ann was infallible -- just apt as often to "burn a cake" as often as a "great chef."

Her "mistake" is in assuming most people would "get" her joke instead of whining about it like oversensitive little PC babies.

i "get" it, i was not offended, but that doesn't mean it wasn't ill-advised. and like it or not, she is an iconic figure representative of the conservative cause. she knows she is, and accepts that role.that's why she is a talking head speaking on that side of the political equation. i don't quite get why you are so defensive of her.

i think you are the one overreacting to the criticism of her. most of what i have seen is people just wishing that she had used better judgment. the majority are not writing her off, tuning her out etc. now should a pattern of such missteps become evident, it could impact people's perception of her.

i know all about "eating our own" and i have seen much more egregious instances of it than this. she can take criticism, i feel quite certain. she's no pansy.
