A swat/tactical team to take down a unarmed eye doctor!

The officer should be fired. What a disgrace.

I guess they should have called out the army.

"Culosi was not making any threatening moves when he was shot once in the upper part of his body,"

So would that be his chest or his head?

I do find it interesting that Fairfax has the resources to tie up a tactical squad and detectives to take down a sports ring. Bad things happen when cops are bored.

From the article "After several years without any shootings, officers shot and wounded several people last year, including one of their own officers in an accidental shooting."

Sounds like a real crack squad they've got there.

Overwhelming force is vastly preferable to insufficient force. They had no way of knowing whether he was armed.

But yeah, the officer that pulled the trigger needs to be disciplined.

"Overwhelming force is vastly preferable to insufficient force"

Wow! I don't know where to begin responding to that

Was the shooting after the guy bet the cop he would shoot?

Officer need to be disciplined? What the heck--fire him already, and make him pay at least some of the compensation to his family that the good people of Fairfax will have to pay.

If a police officer can't stop himself from "accidently" shooting off his pistol, something is dreadfully wrong!

Insufficient force -> shootout. Overwhelming force -> surrender. Surrender > shootout.

"We're humans, and these kind of things do occur."

Well crap... I guess I'm going to have to keep that in mind.

Un-f*cking believable.

Should the gun have even been drawn?

I deliberately used the word "disciplined" because it was ambiguous. It could mean anything from "slap on the wrist" to "charge with manslaughter and put in jail." I don't know all the circumstances, so I'm not going to specify a penalty.

*Looks around*

Oh. I'm in a libertarian thread.
