Some of that information will be in the NDR. Much of it is classified. With d@mn good reason. Total combat casualties in the Afghan and Iraq theaters are published by the media.
I watched the briefing this morning too and literally jumped up and clapped when I heard him say that! That particular reporter was really irritating the heck out of me....as most of them usually do.
Ditto. I didn't read that far, now I'm sorry I didn't. That has to be the most important piece of information in the story. Bevis and Butthead would be a more reliable source for information regarding our military situation.
Wasn't that swell? I was clapping right with you!
You bet they have an "agenda" and it's an agenda that plays right into the hands of the terrorists.
I tell ya, it made my morning! It was -60 this morning and I needed a bit of warm sunshine. Rumsfeld served it to me via satellite!
There are times I'd like to reach right through that t.v. screen and slap some of those idiot reporters as they attempt to further their agenda by spreading lies and inuendos in the form of "questions". Mr. Rumsfeld handled them with intelligence and ease....sort of like an adult trying to explain the facts to a child. Simple, short, and easy enough for a child to understand.
Maybe you saw me post this before, but I'll tell you anyway.
A year or so ago we were standing at the NW gate of the White House, waiting to be WAVEd in through the security gate; a family member worked there and was taking us on a private tour, so it was my husband, my two stepdaughters & their kids, my bestfriend and her husband, plus my family member all standing together.
I happened to look to my left and about four feet from me was Terry Moran; it took everything I had to NOT say one word or even look at him -- because I knew if I did, I would just make a complete a$$ out of myself.
When we finally got through the gate, ALL of them came up to me and congratulated me on NOT embarassing them.......LOL....they were very proud of me.
They're all on notice that will NOT happen again!
Am I looking at this wrong or doesn't it make a difference that 2250 lost their lives out of maybe 1,000,000 or more instead of 150,000?
I'm not trying to minimize the loss. Each one of these brave warriors is more precious to a nation that reveres life than 10,000 death seeking jihadists to islam.
I just think it would point up the astounding job out military has done.
Wholeheartedly concur with your assessment.
Why is it that our family would even THINK that WE would do anything that could even be remotely embarrassing, and in public no less??? I've never been able to figure that out. heh heh
I've never had the honor of visiting the White House but I'd sure like to some day. My little sister was able to see President Bush when he was in W. Virginia the summer before last. We were all green with envy. I'd like to think that I would remain calm and composed. I know I can "do it" because one year I was waiting with my family for our flight out of Anchorage and Tom Skerritt (sp?), the actor, was standing right in front of me as he waited for someone to get off a plane that had just landed. He looked right at me, and we smiled at each other, but I remained composed. Well, if you don't count me running to the other side of that main room and grabbing my family, insisting that they follow me back to where I was standing, and giving them the whispered message, "don't look, or say anything, but that's Tom Skerrit". LOL
If the military isn't being stretched thin, then why have they extended the upper recruitment age to 42? And why is the Army accepting more Cat. IV recruits? Why are recuitment bonuses going through the roof?
Those are measures taken when you do not have enough people entering the armed forces.
Our men and women are doing an excellent job. But the fact is that there are too few of them in Iraq. And we are not gaining enough recruits to make up the difference when our more experienced soldiers muster out. Which places more pressure on the remaining Guard units that still qualify for duty overseas.
"Sure you can retain them."
Not if you send them on one-year combat tours every other year, you can't.
"There is a lot of re-training and cross-training going on now."
That's nice. It doesn't address the problem I'm talking about.
"Morale is high, and the guard and reserve are functioning better now with combat proven veterans."
I'm sure it is, and I'm sure they are. However, you can't call them up constantly for long tours and expect morale to stay high.
"Despite the best efforts of the defeatists who claim that guard and reserve service is not "real" service. It is every bit as important as active duty."
Of course guard and reserve service is important, and honorable. However, it's supposed to supplement full-time troops, not replace them.
"Military personnel are becoming much more interchangeable, if not even fungible."
No, sorry. Not only is that not happening, it couldn't conceivably happen. Not in this world.
"Clerking and supply are going more toward civilians. And that is a good thing."
No, that is a very, very bad thing.
Don't know I was a Marine.
