Considering the Islamofascist ties to Nazism, the revelations that "le resistance" would have been more appropriately termed "le collaboration", the French gov't's spineless and near-instant embrace of the Vichy puppets and the modern day collaboration with Saddam and other terrorists, I have no doubt that your suggestion is an entirely worthy one.

They were in such a hurry to surrender to the Nazis that mobs of French civilians murdered soldiers who tried to fight the Nazis. After they surrounded, they fought enthusiastically for the Nazis. Some of our leaders believed the "French Resistance" myth and did not expect the French in N. Africa to fight us; that was a mistake that cost Allied lives.

The myth of French friendship with the US is something that they use when it suits them (as when they asked for our help in fighting the Vietminh). Because America's very existence refutes their fantasy of French superiority, they turn on us whenever they think they don't need us (as when they sided with North Vietnam).

I originally posted this thread and that comment very late last night, and my furry stoat brain was filled with memories of newsreel footage featuring ebullient French farmgirls climbing up on to Allied tanks in order to give our G.I's a big wet kiss after France was liberated from the Nazis.  I failed to fully think through the complete ramifications of my statement and I suppose it was fueled by wishful thinking. You can see from my post #106 that I am not entirely oblivious to France's ugly past (and present) but I failed to put that together properly in my original post.  My apologies and I stand corrected.

I have heard of that book and it has been on my reading 'wish list' for some time, but it's one of many that I haven't yet gotten around to.  This thread and your suggestion makes me want to move it up to a 'must read next' designation.

Well, considering that "Le Resistance" was primarily dedicated to Vichy and Nazi collaboration, it would have been much like expecting Rommel to pick up the phone and politely inform Patton precisely what his plans were for the next several weeks   :-)

Thanks for the ping. This is interesting. The bunker wasn't destroyed. The Germans left in a hurry. Perhaps they went to man their fighting positions when the Americans started landing -- and never got back to their bunker.

I'll send you a link about the artillery battery that this bunker system supported. It was attacked by the Rangers and 28th Infantry Div on or about 9 June. A friend at work contacted an expert on the ground over there and said that it hasn't been as much of a secret as the discover has made out. But it was ignored and forgotten, and never blown up by Army engineers.

Changing the topic...but keeping to things found from long ago
Came accross an Audio interview on the net regarding Nazi Gravity experiments.
Seems a major hi-density poured concrete structure of huge scale...was found inside a cave/building complex in Poland.
The Author picked up on a previous gen scientist who tried to track down the where abouts of the Gravity/anti gravity/time machine which sat on this structure pillars.
Credible reports do exist of experiments during the war...and the transfer of the main machine away near the wars end.
So ya....its also Philadelphia project experiment type stuff too.
The researcher comented that the concrete poured for this structure surpassed anything found in the third reich.
obviously.....atomic matrix properties for the machines foundation were a concern.
Today....such experiments yeild similar outcome phenomina which mirrors what was said to have occured by locals in Poland and from fragmentary documentation.
Physical objects elevating and fusing to rock and steel....weird blue glowing and black mist.
exposed people having neurological problems afterwards from magnetics.
