I wish the rest of the country would do more to stop sprawl. There are many developers, not all, who are doing alot to ruin many states.
It's called the "I got mine" syndrome.
Move out into the country, build yourself someplace nice, then say to hell with anyone else who might try to do the same.
Why should this be an issue at the national level? It belongs at the local level, period. Let the "smart growth" advocates plead their cases in front of every planning board in the country. What are they looking for? Zoning determined for your neighborhood by the Federal government? A Cabinet-level Secretary of Zoning?
Oh goody, more socialism!
I'm referring to the developers who go out into these small towns and build row after row of condos and townhouses that look exactly alike on every available square foot of land.
Exactly. Lots of NIMBY's on both sides of the political fence.
They buy the land first!
Ok, fine. If you want to use that argument, then don't let all those people with newly acquired expensive properties complain when somebody puts up a trailer park next door.
When considering these enhanced development controls we need to look at the accompanying effect on prices. It has had a devastating impact in Florida. Reductions in density, greenbelts, conservation areas, and rigorous concurrency are great tools for smart growth but put an inordinate burden on those entering the marketplace.
Tim Kaine a centrist? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
He may not be a centrist, but at this point I'm willing to support anyone, Republican or Democrat, who proposes a "smart" smart groth plan.
Massive illegal immigration + "smart growth" = end of the American dream of home ownership.
In other words, you're against private property rights.
"...told lawmakers that his first priority as Virginias governor is giving local leaders the authority to block new housing and business construction if roads cannot handle the increased traffic."
Boy the businesses will be stoked when they know that they can build in a certain area and then be guaranteed, through such restrictions, that the competition cannot geographically compete. Not to metion already established businesses and their environs.
Great idea! (/sarcasm)
"They buy the land first!"
I don't want to hear any complaining then when a porn shop or strip club goes up near your property. After all, first come, first serve.
I'm against developers coming in and unnecessarily destroying a small community. I'm not saying houses should not be allowed to buolt in these places, I'm saying rows and rows of condos and townhouses do not have to exist in every town across America.
