Sucker's a big 'un.
Pretty interesting stuff. Any indications how old they think it is if in fact it is really a man-made pyramid?
alien artefact ping (*now* we know why NATO attacked Serbia - to keep the Russians from getting their hands on the pyramid!)
Definitely man made/shaped.
Wonder why, exactly when, and if any other such constructs exist.
From Publishers Weekly
"The great pyramids of Egypt provide a wonderful glimpse of the artistry, skill and imagination of the ancient world. But pyramids can be found in India, China, Peru, Bolivia, Mexico and Ireland.
In this provocative book, geologist Schoch (noted for his work in redating the Sphinx, which was recounted in his Voices of the Rocks) wonders how so many diverse cultures built such similar structures with similar purposes. Using geological, linguistic and geographical evidence, he contends that a protocivilization of pyramid-building peoples was driven out of its homeland, the Sundaland, which geologists believe connected Southeast Asia with Indonesia, by a rise in sea level caused by comet activity between 6000 and 4000 B.C. Fleeing their homeland, these peoples took their knowledge of pyramid building with them into Sumeria, Mesopotamia, Egypt, China and Peru.
Schoch hypothesizes that the pyramids were built to reach into the skies and to penetrate the mystery of the heavens, source of catastrophe. Schoch also asserts that the pyramids point to unity and symbolize the deep concerns shared by all humans. Schoch builds his engrossing case on geological details of the pyramid sites he has examined around the world.
In the end, however, even he admits his evidence of a Sundaland protocivilization is speculative.
As controversial as this book is bound to be, Schoch's evocation of the pyramids forcefully reminds us of their enduring power as monuments to the spirit of human creativity. 16 pages of color photos not seen by PW. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information, Inc.
About the Author
Robert M. Schoch, a full-time faculty member at the College of General Studies at Boston University since 1984, earned his Ph.D. in geology and geophysics at Yale University. Dr. Schoch has been quoted extensively in the media for his work on the Sphinx, and he was featured on the Emmy-winning documentary The Mystery of the Sphinx, hosted by Charlton Heston.
No. Way into the BC's, I'd guess.
A buried Ha'tak, perhaps?

Helps to read the article.
Theorists believe the Illyrian people who inhabited the Balkan region before the conquering Slavic tribes overran them about 1,400 years ago had the sophistication to shape a hill into a pyramid.
If the estimated date is correct, that would mean it was built around 600 AD. That would make it very young in comparison to the Egyptian pyramids, and quite possibly an attempt to copy them.
The only problem with theories such as the one put forward by Robert M. Schoch, is that the various pyramids and pyramidal structures around the world were built at widely differing times. The ones in the Americas and Southeast Asia are very recent compared to the ones in Egypt.

I did read the article. The fact that the people who could have possibly built something like this left 1,400 years ago only tells me that it would be at least 1,400 years old. I am no expert on the Illyrian's so I don't know how long they occupied this area. I thought the poster may have more info on the subject since he is obviously interested in this subject.
You have a point. BTW, neither am I. I never heard of the Illyrians until this article.
You know not of what you speak. The great pyramid in Egypt is an engineering marvel which we cannot duplicate to this day. The precision is incredible.
All you have to do is look at a few others they created to see how hard it is to build. The others are nothing more than a pile of rubble.
"Im surprised every continent on earth doesnt have pyramids. Put some stones on the ground and then put fewer stones on tone of those stones and so on and so on. Pretty simple. A pyramid is a glorified pile."
You are quite the intellectual. The Great Pyramid at Giza was the world's tallest building for thousands of years until the Eiffle Tower was built. And archaeologist still are not exactly sure how the Egyptian manged to build their Pyramid with the limited resources available to them.
