It works for me. I take 400IU daily. Too much vitamin D can harm your kidneys and liver I've read.
Wow, thinking a whale is a fish will surely impress those DU'ers.
When I get home I'll dig up the info I have on just how much vit D you have to take to damage a healthy kidney or liver. You have to try really, really hard and it's not appetizing. More attention and concern should be directed toward getting the minimums. There is a growing body of research that suggests the current RDA and upper limits are set too low. They are high enough to prevent rickets, but not high enough to derive the other benefits.
While Cod Liver Oil may be terrific and all, and vitamins are a Good Thing, this statement is suspect, IMO. If you inherit a small mouth from your mother and large teeth from your father, no amount of vitamin D is going to make your teeth turn out straight.
As long as I'm being biologically and politically incorrect, maybe I should have suggested they eat a Porpoise?

Ironically, it was a dentist who accumulated data to the contrary. Nutrition during periods of physical develop does indeed influence genetic expression. You may have seen several references/links to Dr. Weston A. Price on this thread, his work makes for a very interesting read.
