Folks, I've been hitting the search engines looking for info on this May 05 incident. So far, zilch. I thought one of you, especially SV with his frequent compilations, might recall or have access to some more info. Thanks in advance!
And the moral of the story is.....don't have dinner with terrorists. And don't bring your kids.
In May last year, security forces raided their homes in Hewai, arresting at least a dozen suspected terrorists from Uzbekistan. They were not present then.
The News, a widely circulated Pakistani national newspaper, quoted Mohammed as saying earlier this week that he would offer refuge to al-Zawahri if he made a request.
It is my wish to meet al-Zawahri because he is a soldier of Islam, it quoted him as saying.
That May raid may not have gotten much coverage outside the regional papers. Whether they get cached that far back or not is not known to me.
I understand. I clipped different key points from the story. I've been searching for something in May 05, but no luck so far.
I everything fails try this http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1155685/posts?page=1246#1246
Thanks. I should have thought to check on the eternal thread! :-)
ABC News reporting a tape is coming out very soon with Zawahiri mourning his lost terror buddies.
Well done, good job (^_^)b

Sorry, but I'm not seeing it.
Seven held over alleged links with al-Qaeda in Pakistan (Updated at 1800 PST)
ISLAMABAD: Security forces have captured at least seven al-Qaeda suspects including three Afghans during an operation here at Bajoor Agency, who were later shifted to unknown place through a helicopter, learnt government sources informed. According to eyewitness, both male and female commandos took part in the operation, which was carried out in the wee hours basically for capturing Maulvi Faqir Mohammad, former chief of outlawed Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e- Mohammadi. However, Faqir Mohammad could be arrested.
A close relative of the chief told Geo TV that Faqir Mohammads brother Gul Mohammad and two other relatives namely Jan Mohammad and Nazir Mohammad have been arrested in the raid.
On the other hand, the forces have also nabbed three Afghans and their guest belonging to Kunnar province of Afghanistan.
Those who were captured in the operation unresistingly handed over themselves to the authorities, sources told adding that later they after blindfolded were shifted to an unknown place.
It may be here mentioned as to brother of Maulvi Faqir Mohammad named Karim was also captured over alleged links with al-Qaeda.
Coop from the looks of it....they didn't capture him....and BTW this took place on the same day they nabbed al-Libbi..
Great list, Coop.
That is not a story I remember.
This is the first time I've seen such a detailed timeline. The dinner started around sundown. We struck at about 3 a.m. local time. So the only way we get Zawahiri is if he spends the night there. Now that's certainly a possibility, given the other big names we likely killed. But it doesn't fit the profile of someone who's been on the run for several years.
Remember that explosion of a landmine..... injuring 2 "goobers" at place called Jangevi 5 km from Damadola?. Could it be connected to the hit on Zawahiri?
