I heard of this project a few years ago !
You, or they(of the site you posted) want people to allow their computers to be linked together in a vast distibuted processing network dedicated to unlocking the cause of Neurological Disorders caused by 'Malformed Proteins' .

That term is usually referenced to research into 'Prions', an unproven pathological entity that is supposed to cause Creutzfeld-Jacob Desease(CJD) .

These misshaphen proteins are believed to be the cause of other neurological disorders(Mad Cow Desease) -
Some have speculated it might be a cause of AIDS - -
but not Alzhiemer's Desease - - - that is what Reagan died of .

So how is this project supposed to help in that area ?

Saw it (SF Bay Area). Had a cloud pop up at the last moment that obscured the interface, but saw the yellow/orange dot during the last half of the 40 seconds of visibility.

It was very faint and close to the horizon. No tail to speak of. We were up at about the 600 ft level.

Helo is out searching for the capsule in the desert. They have good coordinates from NORAD.

I will have missed it anyway, it is so cloudy out here tonight in the Western San Fernando Valley !

Nothing on the TV or CaTV News yet !

Negative from Crescent City.

100% overcast with light rain. I couldn't even see the moon.

And you're right about shoot and shovel. I lived in the Central Valley until the 'bayarrhea' spilled over the Altamont.

It moved across the horizon quickly, just above the ridge line to the east. I'm at about 1000 feet, with little light polution (with the exception of bright moon-light).

Wondering now, why I'm up and out on the porch wrapped in a blanket.

Eureka report. Got outside at 1:50. Thin Clouds/fog here but it did clear a hole to the north and I could see Polaris and the Big Dipper.

Saw nothing/Heard nothing here?

Recovery team reports that they're detecting a beacon from the capsule. That's a good sign that something survived the landing.

Helicopter reports that they've spotted the parachute; landing to see if the capsule is underneath the parachute...

It was busted open and the contents were contaminated , the experiment was useless !

Heh, looks like your prognistications are just as useless.

What if it just comes back clogged with clothes-dryer lint and cat fur?

What I want to know is if it found all those missing socks from the dryer!

Not quite, they were able to recover the samples. Since the ions they were interested in were implanted into the targets a surface clean wouldn't affect them.

It did complicate the process, but some useful science still happened.

There was another collection device called a concentrator that survived 100% intact. It was considered to be the most important instrument on the mission.

If anything ever sounded like the beginning of a sci fi thriller, this is it.
