Yeah, but shoudn't it be at the stern?

Not sure, but could be in way of flight operations back there.

We have an LCAC out on the San Antonio right now. I was going to go but we sent another tech out instead. She needed the trip more then I did. It is a cool looking ship, I can't wait till it gets back so we can hear about it.

Congratulations to San Antonio!

(Robt pats oneself on back.....)

I've been trying since 1974 to get a ship named after the city, since its the ONLY city in the top twenty-five NOT to have at least one, if not four or five, ships named after itself. Phoenix, Boston, Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas, El Paso, Austin, Alamogordo, ..... Everybody EXCEPT San Antonio!

Thought we had a chance when Tower was set to become SecDef under Reagan, but the demo's torpedoed that nomination. (What did Kennedy criticize him for? Womanizing, I think?)

interesting info on the sister ship "New York":

In November 2003, the Navy awarded the contract to build New York (LPD 21). The bow stem of New York was cast in 2003 using tons of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center

"mighty big flag!"

For the benefit of some of our near-sighted allies, I'd guess.
