Got to agree with you. He's a biiiig reason our military is having difficulty in the Middle East. Without his anti-West doings all we'd have to deal with is Iran and maybe N.Korea.

The gas was turned on again after a compromise was reached but Putin, who has deplored the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 as "the greatest geo-political catastrophe of the 20th century", had made his point: Russia is prepared to use its economic might to impose its will on former Soviet republics.

"...its economic might..." Isn't that like saying you're the prettiest one on "The View"?

A pity that everything is covered by top secret clause. :-)

With Pootie Poot never abandoning his KGB roots and the old way of doing things, I find it hard to believe he'd pass up a chance to stick it to the US whenever possible. Whatever conficts Putin has with militant muslims seems to be to put down local insurgents. Hasn't some of the hardware found in Iraq been Russian made?

My memory is vague and that's why I was asking for confirmation. I'll see if I can find the reports. I'll get back in about a week.

From your article, and it later was confirmed the parts were purchased from the Ukraine, not Russia.

"Russia denies flatly that it sold any military equipment to Iraq. But Russian newspapers are boasting that clever Iraqi use of Russian weapons against the U.S. military in this war shows that Soviet weaponry really wasn't as bad as was thought when the Cold War ended. CIA analysts say the missiles could easily have been shipped through third countries like the Ukraine, which maintains close ties to Iraq."

Funny to read this in opposite direction.

Opposite to the version from the Russian press I suppose. :) It speaks much about Russian press...

Russophobes are in blind fury - it means everything is going RIGHT!

As always in Russia.

Nah. Yeltsin was a pet of democratizators.

I knew it, that you will come up with Yeltsin, the worst thing which happened to Russia in the history :) Anybody who thinks that Yeltsin was a democrat is delicately saying ignorant.
