Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty.

I thought he gave just as much if not more to democrats.

We've heard this last two times elections and both times we gained seats - a significant number. That doesn't mean it is going to happen again this year, but it does put into perspective the value of this poll.

No generic poll the last twelve years has shown Republicans ahead. Not a one. Anyway, this is AP-Ipsos, telling us what the French think.

After the dems lose this election (and even though I am a pessimest, I still think the Republicans will win) they are going to be more hysterical than ever. I look for an all out civil war.

His PAC and lobby groups gave 1/3 to Democrat groups and candidates and 2/3 to Republican. He, as an individual, gave almost only to Republicans, as I understand the distiction.

"In an ominous election-year sign for Republicans"

A number of polls in May and June of 2004 (by better firms than Ipsos) had Democrats favored by double-digits (as high as 19%).

How did that work out for them?

Check this out Do your beliefs tend to lean more toward the Democrats or the Republicans? Total Republican - 40 Total Democrat - 52 Maybe these pinheads were polling in California. They sure the heck didn't get an accurate sample of AMERICA. It's another phony poll by the left. Notice how they don't show you how the questions split for each party. Because they know that their poll is phony. It's leftist propaganda meant to demoralize weak Republicans.

I guess this "poll" clearly explains why Republicans hold the majority in the House and Senate.

Its always the same. The MSM creates a reality they want and wish for and then desperately attempts to ram it down our throats. The more desperate they appear, the more people reject them and they HATE us for it. Hence the contempt in which the MSM holds us.

In the case of election 2006, the MSM believes the corruption issue is and will be IT. Thats the end of it. No other issues will be considered or discussed during this election. The MSM has decided that corruption and corruption alone were the reasons the Republicans won congress in 1994. Pay no attention to that mind behind the curtain. Forget about Hillary Care and the Contract with America as reasons for the 1994 Republican Revolution. The MSM has to, of course, because if this election were decided on policy issues, the dems are already dead. The Republicans are Waaaaaaaaaaay more in touch policy-wise with the American people than the democrats who drift further and further away everyday. The MSM are simply propagandists. They can no longer report because even a tiny bit of the truth hurts. Hence, they must manufacture to force their version of reality on the voters. But the voters keep rejecting it. Undeterred, the MSM just amps it up.

Still, nothing can change the fact that the dems are adrift. I argue that even if the Republicans alone were implicated in the Jackme Abramoff scandal, the voters would be left with the choice of throwing out the bums v. voting in the Martians.

Can anyone honestly see the voters throwing out the Republicans for the sake of change while ignoring the following policy positions:

1)immediate withdrawl from Iraq under the pretense of it being an American defeat.

2)appeasement of Iran by cutting off funds to the armed forces and preventing the President from using force to deal with Iran.

3)curtailing the President's powers to monitor terrorist activities by criminalizing activities exercised by every President since Christ was a Corporal.

4)treating terrorism as a crime and restoring the pre-9/11 wall that kept our intelligence and law enforcement agencies from protecting us.

5)immediately raising taxes and trying to force socialized healthcare down the throats of the American people.

6)legalizing their social agenda such as gay marriage, euthenasia, etc.

7)what the hell else am I leaving out?!?

Didn't they once take a poll on whether Jesus should be crucified? How did that poll turn out?

IMright great info. I also remember these polls in the Summer of 2004 that said DEM's would win over 20 seats in the elections. Polls nowadays are not factual but spewed towards ideologies. NANCY PELOSI is horrible and is the best thing the GOP has going for them in 2006.

In an ominous election-year sign for Republicans, Americans are leaning sharply toward giving Democrats control of Congress, an AP-Ipsos poll finds. Democrats are favored 49 percent to 36 percent.

I'm terrified. Not.

When Pubs are 3-5% behind, it usually ends up being a draw, with a seat here and there.

This is completely different, albeit early.

Market is already rallying strong as Feds are ready to stop hiking the rates.

If the market rally turns into real bull rally, and no more bitch-hurricanes show up, then the mood would/could change.

I agree as election time nears, polls would tighten up, but at this point, Bush's second term is feeling like (to public in general) as a disaster, and all the scandals involving corruption, and of course MESSOPOTAMIA can combine to create PERFECT STORM against Pubbies.

Just facts. Hope this year brings W and Pubs more luck.

These are the same kind of numbers that came out in 2004 that claimed "any Demoncrat" would win in a landslide over President Bush.

Great!

Hope good news continue to flow.

In 04, I said Dems would steal OHIO.

I apologized when they failed.

Unlike others who were predicting landslides, I had said it would be decided by OHIO, long before it came true.

Only I over estimated their ability for corruption.

Hope tide changes....

Sure, it's pollaganda ... but its not like thinks are going swimmingly well for the Congressional GOP.
THis is media's attempt to 'shake the tree' and cause a GOP stampede.
Things to do (Hugh Hewitt's lists):
1. Confirm the Judges.
2. Cut the spendings.
3. make tax cuts permanent.
4. Win the war.
5. Keep America safe.
...

oh, and
6. Defeat the democrats.
