So, a couple of hard-bitten reporters from the McCurtain County Gazette rooted up this story. Speaks volumes about the "ambition" and "capability" of big city "investigative journalists". It's amazing what you can do without a huge expense account.

"I'm racking my brain trying to remember who was president at the time."

I think her name was Hillary.

there is still a difference between obtaining a list of numbers called, and actually listening (whether it be via data filters or otherwise) to conversations in progress. I imagine this NSA case involves both practices - examining number calling patterns, and monitoring the content of conversations to/from certain numbers on the "hot list".

I'm not a lawyer, but it does say that they would have needed a subpeona but knew the request would get turned down.

So instead, they took the entire database of phone numbers and bank records for every customer!

All those poor, innocent, unsuspecting American citizens had all that information on a government database.

Where's the database now?

"there is still a difference between obtaining a list of numbers called, and actually listening"

And how do we rationalize obtaining bank records?

I am no expert on this subject, but some other freepers are chiming in that the IRS can apparently do it without a judge's order. I really think the 4th amendment protection is very narrow - personal effects inside your home, medical history, etc.

That's what I have always understood.
But isn't the tracking specific to the suspect/s?

Can you track every single customer at my debit card company, in case a child abductor decides to call them one day?

Hold on now!

This was the CLINTON administration which, of course, makes this entirely permissible, uneventful and a non-issue.

Case closed...please move on!!

Heck, they HAD to take those phone records.....

To expunge all the NON-homegrown/right-wing/militia contacts before an honest FBI investigator or honest investigative reportercould pull up any embarrasing links or incompetences of the Clintons, who felt the need to make OKC part of their "vast right wing conspiracy" nonsense

What will Nancy Pelosi say?

She will do exactly like my little grandchildren do when I confront them with wrong doings!
They keep their hand over their ears!!
Then they respond loudly: "I don't want to hear what you are saying"!!!
