I only intended to demonstrate his statement that the attackers value their lives at zero was false. This was done easily by pointing out that they value their cause above their life, and that is something not unique to them. He admitted there are things he values more than his life, but squirmed when he realized that doesn't mean he values his own life at zero. That's why he ducked the question.
