I wonder if he'll pretend there is no illegal immigration problem.....

These are your words.

For me, 'pretending' is dishonesty. For me dishonesty is lack of character.

I would say this in response to a comment about anyone........the President, you or me. It's not 'cheerleading'........it's what I think about character.

As I said in my previous post, if you don't think honesty is part of character, then I understand where you were coming from in being so defensive and saying you hadn't said what I perceived that you had said.

Just clear it up, if you wish, or not, if you wish...........but this is where my dissent with you comes from.

I have much to do (I work at home for the most part), so I can't afford to keep repeating the same things. I've said all I have to say more than once.

If you continue to miss what I've said, so be it, but I've made my points very clear.

Good day, Principled.

I am not a Bush hater. What indicates to you that I am?

Did I say YOU are? Nope. My comment was broadly worded and intentionally sardonic. I pinged you to my post because it was about your comment to OWF that she shouldn't wonder why people quit posting to her.

A little reading comprehension might be a useful thing to cultivate in the one-dimensional world of internet forums.

Since you mention it, however, President Bush has not ignored immigration concerns. He has had a proposal on the table since his first term. Now, you and many others may disagree with his proposal, but that is a different matter from making a false claim that he has ignored immigration concerns.

You whine and complain when anyone posts the truth about the Bush record.

One more point. You didn't DO that.........post the 'truth about the Bush record' that is. You posted your opinion which was based on media speculation.

You made a vacuous criticism and then whined like a baby about your freedom of speech when I called you on it.

I appreciate the fact that you don't want to discuss things with me, but please don't blame it on me. It is your inability to deal with criticism (as proven clearly on this very thread) that is the problem......not me. You want to be able to say whatever you jolly well please, no matter how irresponsible, and not have to defend your words. It doesn't work that way around here. If you say something, you ought to have the guts to defend it, and not whine and run away like you did here.

So whine no more, Reagan Man. This is a great country with GREAT President. Life is GOOD. Be happy.

And next time we meet, try to be more honest, OK? Blaming others for your own flaws isn't very grown up.

I did not say the president was lying. Perhaps you have me confused with another poster. The remainder of the post to which I am replying is based on that fallacy.

There is no sense in defending a statement which I did not make... no matter how many times you ask.

I still think you are being unfair to harp on his inability to get some things done, calling it "ineffectiveness", in light of the opposition. I can't imagine anyone that I can think of doing any better.

I have to agree!

BTW the only reason you see me type it repeatedly is because someone keeps telling me I've typed something else.

For clarity: I believe the president is ignoring immigration. I believe the president did all he could on SS reform, but that the dems will use the failure of doing so to beat him with - even tho it's mostly their fault. I believe that the tax cuts are wonderful and that further reform is being ignored by emmploying a bogus commission that came up with crap.

That's all. I don't think he's a liar. I think he's one of the best leaders ever - maybe the best I've ever lived thru - and that' a plenty more than I'd like to admit.

I don't think anyone could have done better either, but that's not the issue.

Plainly the issue is I'm being harangued for criticizing. Who needs it.

Do you think he was ineffective with national security, fighting the terrorists, probably the most important thing he has had to do and do it in the face of treasonous opposition, tax cuts, boosting the economy in a sound way, and other things I can't recall at the moment.

No, of course not. This post is an example of what I've had to endure for simply posting criticism. Sheesh.

It light of who and what we face, I think you, and others who say the same, should be on the Bush/Republican band wagon, singing their high praises and demanding unity against the truly dangerous enemy we face.

How do you take that I think he's ignoring immigration and ss/tax reform to mean that I don't sing Bush's praises? Are criticism and praise mutually exclusive in your view?

All in all, and in comparison with others, I think yours has been a reasoned dissent,...

Oh my gosh! I don't dissent! I merely criticize the president's job on immigration... oh why bother.

Time for the MSM to start complaining that he is on vacation when he is in Crawford. You know, those crazy Media types are able to get a satellite truck, cellphones and other communications to Crawford but the President doesn't have a working office from there. He is just sitting around, playing solitaire.

He never even ventured into this little town of 600, not even to the cheeseburger joint that he often uses as a political tool to show that he is in touch with his neighbors.

For your amusement, this gem of unwitting NY Times self-parody.

W:Did I say YOU are?

Yes. Right here

Ooooo, now you've gone and done it, OWF. The GWB haters around here are not going to post to you anymore.

Why not just admit that you think I'm a Bush hater? I'm not, but that doesn't matter does it?

Excuse me, but are you being dense on purpose?

I have said repeatedly now, that it is MY OPINION, based on MY DEFINITION of character, that your first post saying the President might PRETEND that a serious issue didn't exist would be DISHONEST (i.e.LYING)....... IN MY OPINION.

If you were to say to me, you are PRETENDING that something that IS so, isn't so, I would say that you are accusing me of LYING. When you accused the President of PRETENDING, I interpret that as BEING DISHONEST.

Adults don't PRETEND. If they are telling the truth, they are telling the truth.

I hope that finally gets through, because that is my last attempt to explain the same thing I have made very clear in previous posts.

Discussing fallacies when you are deliberately missing what I have said is absurd. OBVIOUSLY you think adults can PRETEND and not tell the truth, and still have character, otherwise you would know that accusing the President of PRETENDING would be casting an aspersion on his character.

OK........enough.

For the first time in 2006 ...

Quote:
the Times's new publisher, Arthur "Pinch" Sulzberger Jr ... was a sixties anti-war activist who famously declared that in a confrontation between an American and a North Vietnamese soldier he'd want to see the American get shot."
Unquote.

Why not just admit that you think I'm a Bush hater?

Because Wolfstar doesn't think you are a Bush hater.

The fact that you are being hypersensitive, and assuming all sorts of things on this thread and imagining that you are being accused, doesn't change the facts (which Wolfstar clearly explained to you).

You might be best to take a few deep breaths and get some fresh air. It will clear your head.

...accusing the President of PRETENDING would be casting an aspersion on his character.

OK so you FINALLY back off your claim that I said he lied. Good. He didn't. And I didn't say he did. Thank you finally.

Next proble, I didn't accuse him of pretending either 0 you won't find it in any of my posts. That's why you will be unable to show it. Just like you finally backed of your claim that I called him a liar - I asked you to show it and you couldn't. You can't show where I accused him of pretending either.

I hope that finally gets through, because that is my last attempt to explain the same thing I have made very clear in previous posts. Chew on that a while.

Because Wolfstar doesn't think you are a Bush hater.

That's odd. He called me one. You're a very skilled mind reader.... unless *gasp* you made an error! The horrors!

Of course I'm not a bush hater. There is no evidence to show such. But that doesn't matter now, does it?

As long as you can holler and carry on about somebody bush hating, it doesn't matter does it?
