Psychiatry's sick compulsion: turning weaknesses into diseases

I have heard that some low tone bass thumping such as is popular with kids/cars now can cause onset of epiletic seizure for those victims of that disease.

Have you had all the physical tests of hearing and eyesight and what about your thyroid and/or adrenal gland functions...

I remember I was quite sick when I watched an old Disney cartoon/movie "Fantasia".... it literally had me out cold...but my eyesight was affected and it became a warning sign of future poor eyesight.

You could be an interesting study for your local medical community ....

Ahem don't feel badly about the kids playing their "cars"...I have come very close to considering homicide in cases like you mention. And I don't have an impairment....only a terrible temper! :o)

LOL, no problem with the mis-understanding. Most persons including doctors haven't seen the likes of me LOL. I can write when I don't have any distractions. If it wasn't for spell check you would not be able to read it. It also makes for incomplete sentences.

I have a form of seizure called Stimulus-sensitive myoclonus. Official description is it is triggered by a variety of external events, including noise, movement, and light. Surprise may increase the sensitivity of the patient. When I have attacks I can have severe spasms in my upper torso. I don't pass out or nothing like that. But a few minutes of them and I'm worn out for the day. It looks like I either had a bucket of ice poured down my back or got hit by a cattle prod. Sometimes it even hits my vocal cords. Fortunately so far it has stayed in my shoulders and not moved into my arms & hands. When that happens if it does I will stop driving. Just common sense.

There was something that happened in Japan about a decade ago called Poke-O-Mon syndrome. Kids were watching the cartoon and seizured. That is what I mean by flashing special effects. And driving under certain conditions will make me have seizures. So will a Wally World PA system. That is why I say I can't be desensitized.

I have had a CAT SCAN, MRI, and test for brain wave EEG?? but nothing showed. I'm 48 years old. But as a small child my reactions to certain sensory situations were atypical. If a visual event scared me I covered my ears and vise versa. Technically or functionally I only have usable vision in one eye. Both eyes have vision but never at the same time. As a kid I spent two years in rehab working on eye/muscle coordination. I was thought to have had ADD/ADHD now I know it was C.A.P.D. I passed two military physicals one for the Navy the other for Army National Guards.

I was a Navy Machinist Mate in the late 1970's. When I got to the ship they tried to have me work in what is called the HOLE or Boiler Rooms. I staggered around like a drunk due to the excessive humidity and heat levels. I had a severe sinus allergy history as a kid to the point of allergy shots. That in turn damaged my Vestibular System. Now I have Asthma as well, and had to go back to taking shots again a few months back.

Other than that I haven't been tested. What I know about this I learned by studying Vestibular Disorders on line and by recalling some of my wife's problems. When she went quad the first thing she lost was Inner Ear function. She has GAD also and can not take SSRI's. I am loosing my hearing in one ear and have severe Tinnitus at several frequency ranges in both ears. My attacks have lessened somewhat in the past couple of years. But only because of my hearing problems.

The huge life saver for me was a book called "Phobia Free" by Harold Levinson MD that described what I have to a Tee. In the mid 1970's he accidentally discovered a link between Vestibular disorders and anxiety disorders.

I have a feeling cases like mine in my severity are rare. In a real bad attack I can find myself wondering just where I am at, how I got there, what time it is, etc in familiar places. That was my fisrt attack 12 years ago this month and it happened on an interstate. It literally scared me to death. The symptoms I was having mimicked MS among other things. It's rare that I have them this bad now but now it's just an inconvenience. I know all I have to do is pull over, pop a Xanax or two in some cases under my tongue then wait 10-20 minutes.

If a parent has a kid who acts ADD ADHD have them tested by an Audiologist that specializes in Central Auditory Processing Disorders. Save the shrink for last. C.A.P.D. is far more common than ADD ADHD but goes under diagnosed while ADD/ADHD goes over diagnosed resulting in improper treatment. CAPD kids generally can't take Ritalin. They tried it on me as a kid also.
