Islam is not, however, the key problem facing scientific achievement in the Muslim world. Well, it is the ONE thing that is common amongst all similar nations. The problem is that they have not gone through a Reformation where science, art, technology, and reason are reconciled with with religion. This is a good article overall, but they did leave something out. The majority of modern day countries devote billions to madrassas and other religious schools. Far more than any other studies.

Don't overlook their leading role in holocaust denial and biological efforts to prove that Jews are monkeys or pigs.

"The one exception was Turkey, which under Kemal Mustafa Ataturk after 1922 launched an ambitious program of industrialization and an expansion of engineering education."
That country is turning a new leaf if we take current events in that country into account:
Turkish Turn Back?
Tolerance, slipping
Istanbul - Back in June, Turks did a double-take when Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan began his monthly television address. Rather than speak before the traditional backdrop of the Turkish flag and a portrait of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the republic, Erdogan spoke before photos of mausoleum and a mosque. The message, Turks said, was clear. Ataturk was dead, but Islam lives on. http://www.nationalreview.com/rubin/rubin200510190816.asp

Islam is not, however, the key problem facing scientific achievement in the Muslim world. Yeah, right. And I'm Queen Elizabeth of England.

I live in a desert, by choice.
The rough sands repel liberals.
That, and I am allergic to basically all plant life.

This, for example, is the proportion of citations of articles published in internationally circulating science journals. And the vast majority of those came from "Beheading Monthly."

They teach Anti-Semitism. THey also teach IED.
The real answer is that they stifle free thought. THat also explains why China's only venture into science is to steal from us.

This is a good article overall, but they did leave something out. The majority of modern day countries devote billions to madrassas and other religious schools. Far more than any other studies. They cling to tradition and fear change. More than that, they fear that what they believe will be disproven via science and curiosity. It's easier to control those who don't ask questions.

Oh, except when it comes to ID. Then we just say "God did it" and leave it at that. When we all know that it just happened by itself and we must "leave it at that."

Why do they lag in Science?
1. The rich and "educated" are inbred, gene pool not deep enough for real thought.
2. The poor are malnourished, don't go to school and die young.
3. The boys with any "initiative" blow themselves up, not that they would have amounted to anything anyway cause they were probably stupid to begin with. What person with any brains blows himself up?
4. The smart ones don't achieve because if they do and fall into the good graces of a leader, the leader gets assassinated, and the thugs go after everyone associated with former leader.
5. It is too darned hot to study anything there, they do have loads of oil, what else is there?
6. They are just plain stupid.

I took professor Ahmed's "Your Wife from a Pile of Crap - A Comparative Study" in college. I got an incomplete.

When any scientific endeavor has to first be vetted by some wild-eyed kook with a beard full of fleas - think any well-known "ayatollah" or Muckie al-Sadr - that really tends to stifle creative thought...

"While Islam has yet to reconcile faith and reason..."
This excerpt from the article suggests an Islamic reliance upon creationism. No wonder their science is lousy.
