"By using electromagnetic waves instead of electrical current for switching, researchers have operated an optical modulator at terahertz frequencies – an accomplishment that could one day facilitate data transmission rates in the trillions of bits per second."

I'd like to see a list of every way over the past 40 years researchers have created a "single switch" with a new technology to make silicon transistors absurdly slow---and each item with a follow up on what's been done since this "single switch" was made. Mostly, its nothing.

Anyone remember Josephson's junctions? I think IBM has a project going on that one that even their accountant can barely bring to mind. But for years it was all the rage as they made one switch, then a simple amplifier, etc.

I wonder how the NSA is going to monitor things when there's terrabits of info flowing throughout the world?

Trust me. They'll be able to do it.
