These folks are what used to be called Rockefeller-Republicans. These were members of the GOP in the forties, fifties, and sixties, who thought the socialism of the New Deal was just fine.

Maybe these people need to join the Democrats. They'd be happier there.

Electorally it was shown that the southern counties in NH where all the ex-Mass residents move to....overwhelmingly voted Republican, apparently they were fleeing from the democrats. It seems the hinterlands of the north and the few small cities in NH are now the bastions of democratic politics...though they count themselves as "moderates".

That's pretty accurate, I think. Many people tend to blame the influx from Massachusetts for NH's turning blue - well, purple, really. But my experience is that many ex-Massachusetts folks here in Southern NH are more like refugees than invaders. (I came here from Mass. too, FYI).

On the other hand, we have also seen an influx of people from Maine (looking for work) and Vermont (looking for something other than livestock), and these people tend to be much more socially liberal. Then there are the newcomers from NJ/PA/NY/CT looking to escape high taxes and housing costs, who also bring their "blue state" attitudes with them. They love our low taxes, but have no use for our small government ideas.

That said, I am enormously disappointed in both of our Senators. They have both tacked to the Left in order to protect their jobs, while their principles (such as they possess) are clearly expendable.
