If you don't like their theft/fraud control measures, then buy in person and pay cash. You don't have to tell anybody where you live and the seller won't have to worry about fraud.

it might undergo some fine tuning as a result of additional debate, but it will never be totally tossed away.

"We could wind up with someone like McCain, who'd be just about as bad. We have to craft our laws with the assumption that less-than-worthy people might (or probably will) be executing them, and therefore make sure that they have appropriate safeguards."

You and I are in complete and total agreement.

McCain is more of a 'RAT than Lieberman could ever hope to be.

As a matter of fact, I'd trust Joe Lieberman much further that I could toss McCain.

I missed most of the Senate voting on the PA.

What happened? Did they strip out all of those offensive regulations on post office boxes?

You've given up a lot of time, making sure that as many people as possible, know what a fool you are; that's all you've done.

You want to get rid of the Post Office, you want to carry a useless Swiss Army knife on a plane ( why do you fly...after all, don't you pine for a time before man flew? ), and you claim that you'd rather fight al Qaeda from a nonexistent front porch. Yep, all of that makes sooooooooooooooooooo much sense...NOT!

OK, just getting into the thread.

Lessee - the Patriot Act is horroble. Incomprehensible. The worst thing that can possibly happen to Americans. (according to Dems) So, let's extend it as is!

They're just trying to time it to match up with the next election cycle. I hope that the republicans have their ducks in a row as the liberal/DNC/NYT/CBS team will be working in full swing at that time.

A loss for the president

A loss just for the President...or a loss for The People also? I hate that such Acts exist...but I also understand that some issues that simmered the last few decades came to a head one fine September morning not so long ago and I would like our elected officials to come to some agreement on how we can, from this point forward, balance liberties with the duties of the government in this one critical area.

"Whew! Safe for at least another six months!"

Are you kidding? You were really worried about being blown up by terrorists in Minnesota because a useless but intrusive act was going to expire?

"it might undergo some fine tuning as a result of additional debate, but it will never be totally tossed away."

Oh I know that. I don't want the entire PATRIOT act to expire, just a certain sixteen provisions. In six months those provisions will be tweaked and some probably thrown out.

I hope I'm wrong but you see what goes on in the Senate, how many times has the President promised to veto things and RATS challenged him and he caved.

CFR, Farm Bill, No Child Left Behind, Illegal Immigration, Terrorist Bill of Rights, Patriot Act that should not be reauthorized at all in my opinion, but the President said no short term extension and then agrees.

Each time he shows weakness it emboldens the RATS

I went through that with him already - he says mail boxes etc still requires he provide his real name and an actual address.

But, the real answer to your question is that the war on terror will end when the U.S. and its friends are no longer in fear of terrorism.

The problem is who gets to decide we're no longer in fear? The government? Am I the only one here who actually read 1984 and understood the problems with perpetual warfare and the expansion of state power?

I wanted to cry; when are the Republicans EVER going to see that the Democrats will say or do anything about ANYBODY to further their cause.

Bless his heart.

"Conservatives" on this board so desperate for any semblance of a win on any issue that they will accept this as a victory.

Amazing.

I give up......for now.
