Sadly, the Dems seem to have more unity and solidarity among themselves than the Republicans at this time...
-----
I really see NO LEADERSHIP in the Repubs. The Dems do have leadership, as sick and perverted as it is...and they are consistent (consistently anti-American).

Well it seemed that Ventura didn't make it for the long haul in Mi either. Even though he was right on the money with things he did and said. Examples being that churches should pay taxes too and the closing of the govenors mansion(to save dollars)

I think Frist will do the right thing and we will see this come to a vote again in the next couple days. I do not see how he has any other choice.

The best pub leadership I see is in the White House.
I sure hope Frist steps up. Keep that Senate in session until this bill passes the cloture stall and we see a up or down vote. Absent a vote, lets see Frist hold the fire to the Dems and force them to argue why NOT to drill ANWR on Christmas day! All the way to New Years day if need be!

It's still an easy way to debate the issue. And linking energy independence with national defense should also be a slam dunk. Simply shrugging your shoulders and saying "oh well, people misunderstand us, the only thing to do is to give us 80 votes so we can break a filibuster (allowing for 20 defections of the weak-kneed) doesn't really get you very far. Also, it's about time that they use the power they've been given. Tad Stevens is head of Appropriations. Pick 6 Senators and just red-line all of their pet projects until they come to their senses.

Hewitt is playing the clip of Kerry yelling about his "DOODY!" in the ANWR comments.

I would hardly consider that I am advocating shruggin shoulders. That is the very thing I am speaking against!

I agree they should use the power theyhave been given...its called an up or down VOTE!

DEMOCRATS WANT HIGHER GASOLINE PRICES

A headline you will not see in the legacy media.

If the roles were reversed republicans would be beat with these headlines and lead tv news stories daily.

Kerry is such a POS. He really is in the same league as the Klintoons when it comes to being just an outright fake and a liar.

Dems like higher gasoline prices because it means higher tax revenues that they can spend on socialistic programs.

All you true believers who are going to boycott RNC fundraising in order to push your agendas are the beloved of Howard Dean. Aren't you?

How can he not love someone who is going to increase Democratic seat count.

Why are you interested in moving Red state congress critters rightward? Why this half a loaf approach? Laziness? Why aren't you sending money to blue states to turn those congressional seats red. Isn't that far more bang for the buck?

Of course it is. But that would not be an action that Howard Dean would love. You prefer to do the things he would love. Why is that?

It is never ever ever about voting FOR anyone. It is always, no exceptions, voting against the most disliked. This is going to be true as far into the future as anyone can see. Act to help the Democrats and you condemn yourself, your family and your neighbors to life under their agenda. How can you look at yourself in the mirror knowing that?

Actually not. Gas is taxed on a per gallon basis, not as a fraction of the sales price. If the prices where high because the taxes are high (they are, but not as high as most places, and they haven't gone up recently).

Since higher prices lead to lower consumption, the DUMs are shooting themselves in the foot as far as tax collections go, and about helping the little guy, since the little guy is hurt more by high gas prices. Of course they'll continue, with the help of the MSM, to blame the high prices on Haliburton and President Bush.

I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect the Congress will go on a "Holiday Recess" (Not a Christmas recess, that wouldn't be PC) before the issue is brought up again.

Gas is taxed in some ways per gallon and other ways by % of price. Namely sales tax. Layers and layers of taxes (and fees) exist here in this blue state and if you claim that sales taxes do not rise as price rise you best take on some additional math classes. If you will claim that sales tax on gasoline is not a tax on gasoline I want to hear it.

So um, actually yes. Higher gas prices equal higher tax revenues.

Prices rose to nearly twice what they were just a few years ago and i beg you to show how these prices shunted demand. You simply cannot show that over a timeframe of more than a couple months tops.

Are sales tax and direct per gallon tax reciepts up or down when compared to five years ago? Eight years ago?

As a great man once said.....Try again.

Sorry if I was unclear...I was speaking of our beloved Republican Senate majority.

As we saw today, among other times, Majority does not equate to control. 57 votes is not enough to push legislation thru. (56 plus Frists vote that would have been yes had three more people voted for cloture.)

I am saddened by folks that think 44 votes should make policy coming out of the US Senate. In effect that is what happened today.

At this point I am convinced that the Republicans have created nearly all their problems and the Democrats and MSM have capitalized on all their bumbling, refusal to stand up and defend themselves, total lack of discipline, etc. The most infuriating thing they have done (and continue to do) is mess around in the primaries. This alone has bought them all sorts of bad feelings among the base and just created more problems. (Bob Smith - Sununu; Specter - Toomey; and now Chafee and Whatshisname the mayor of some town in R.I.; probably others too.)

To some extent that's true, in the same way that it's true with any bully. That's one reason why the "deal" brokered by the Gang of 7 was such a bad idea. If the Republicans had stood up to the Dems as long ago as the power sharing deal of Lott (sad how we can measure time by all the "compromises" agreed to by the Republicans, isn't it?) we wouldn't have been through half of what we've endured the last 5 years. To be fair, it is in some respects easier to be effective in the minority since you only need 40 votes to block, but 60 to end debate. But the reason people want to be in the majority is the perks that come with the majority.

Now we're in the situation some parents have found themselves in....they didn't believe in discipline when their child was 3....now that he/she is 13 and out of control they find it very difficult to assert control. Children and even Democrats aren't stupid. They know that bluster without action means nothing.

Owen, I thought you were naive. I was wrong. You are just not conservative. You like the RINOs, so by all means send your money to the RNC, Howard Dean or anybody you choose. Those of us who are conservatives are sick and tired of being stabbed in the back by the Republican party run by RINOs for RINOs.
