I think that is gonna backfire as this will become Christian v's Muslim rather than Skips v's Lebs.
Reverend Glenys Biddle, of the Uniting church in Auburn, said the destroyed hall had been a important part of the local Tongan community. "For them, they have lost not only a physical building but a sense of fellowship," she said. "A lot of memories have also been lost for Anglos, Tongans and people of all sorts of cultures."
Tongans!! The last people you want to make enemies of are Tongans. Dumb mistake on the part of the Muslims.
This weekend is going to be bad. Bad squared. I'm staying at home on the weekend (I live in an area that could see some fighting).
Keep us posted. Not much press in the US about the riots yet, but if this keeps up eventually it will have to be talked about.
You guys are in our prayers.
Onward Christian soldiers.
Maronites in Australis ping!
"In response, members of the Arab Christian and Arab Muslim communities have called for a curfew for all Lebanese youths over the weekend."
The muslim "youth" are a plausibility deniable weapon of the Jihad.
Gee, what if it was never about race? What if it's about cult and culture?
Why is that, are the Tongans noted for ferocity?
Yes you do! Yes they will!
Amjad Mehboob, head of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, said he believed the violence had been committed by an extremist fringe of the Muslim community. "I wish we knew who they were. I wish we could engage with them so we can find out what their beliefs are, so we can deal with them," he said.
Of course you do Mr. Mehboob!
Their beliefs? Islam of course!
And yes, chruches can be rebuilt, except once Islam takes over. Then there is no provision for it. Funny how that works, eh.
Why Tongan? What does that imply. Are they less likely to just "take it?"
Remember to only refer to the muslims as "youths" or "impoverished youths" etc.
There appear to be quite a few "radical" Islamists worldwide these days. We're not talking the casual street gang here.
Time for the world to pull its head out of the sand perhaps?
Does anyone know of a FR equivalent in Australia?
I like to do a little lurking just to see what the debate is like over there now.
Stay safe. May God be with you.
Better get your supplies in order, hunker down and lay low with the family, lock and load for protection, and have escape routes planned in case it gets out of hand. May the good Lord protect you and yours.
My sister lives in a suburb of Sydney so I'm kind of interested in this (I've emailed but haven't heard back yet).
Two questions: What set these riots off? Any particular incident?
Here in Philadelphia the vast majority of Lebanese are Christians (Maronite) and I had come to believe that was the case with most Lebanese ex-Pats. What is the breakdown (roughly) in the Sydney area?

the building I work in. I'm going to start
thinking of her as a human being"
Good thing law-abiding Australian citizens can't carry guns--they might have had to defend themselves and their families. Instead they get to become statistics.
What are Skips?
Basically, a group of Lebanese Muslims descended on a beach and beat up two lifeguards and kicked the locals out, saying "it was their territory, now".
The next day, about 5000 locals returned to take be beach back.
Some yahoos beat up some non combatant ME's and the Muzzies started rioting all over the city.
Tongans tend to be very big and very good at punching people into last week if you p*ss them off enough. They are also very religious so burning down one of their churches is like urinating on the Alamo to Texans.
