Anyone who used the phrase, "showing his true colors," or some variation thereof needs to drug down a dark alley and spanked with a wooden spoon.
I detest that phrase, and it always seems to come out of the mouth of some mealy-mouthed liberal.
And as for our little journalist, yes, you can use Happy Hannukah or what have you with Merry Christmas. Just don't cast them all into the vast pit of nothingness that is Happy Holidays.

For my curiosity... Have these companies you mentioned outlawed all religions when speaking of holidays or only outlawed Christmas?

Heck, I show my true colors all the time!
I have American Flag decals and NRA and local firing range bumper stickers on my 1983 Camaro that is running Purple Heart license tags. I actually send out religious CHRISTMAS cards.
But I know what you mean. It is usually said by liberals followed by a slur.
