The reason we solve as many crimes as we do is that most criminals are about as bright as this guy.

I love watching the K9 episodes of Cops. Esp. when they let the dog loose.
Usually hear screaming coming from the bushes.
One episode however a drug dude and karate expert put the hurt on a German Shepard. The dog turned tail and ran.

I read one time that the reason Dobermans weren't used that much in LE was because training could not overcome their intelligence...i.e. attacking a person with a gun. I always wondered if there was any truth to that. They are a wicked looking animal. I had one years ago that got cancer - best sweetest smartest dog I ever had. (now I sound like pit bull owners)

I'd not heard that before, but Dobermans were used rather frequently in WWI and WWII.
Here is the United Doberman Club site regarding the memorial at the United States Marine Corps War Dog Cemetery in Guam.

A dog trainer told me that. He also told me that Labs were high on the list of biters. Never heard that before either.
Thanks for the link. The statue made me miss my Natasha and gave me a little history on their place in WW2.

I had my first meeting with a Doberman in college; you'll love the story.
At the time (1963) I thought they were generally vicious and not to be gotten near. It was mid-May and I was sitting in my room at the fraternity house reading a book with my feet up on a chair. I heard a tinkling and pattering when, suddenly, a very large male Doberman bounded into the room. If I'd been a Catholic, I'd have asked for a priest and extreme unction immediately.
The dog, however, didn't see things that way and didn't seem to know of his breed's reputation. Instead of trying to eat me, he proceeded to crawl all over me and make friends, just the way a really loving 6 month old chocolate lab might. I've never thought the same way about Dobermans since.

Hehehe. That's a really cute story. I'm not a big fan of Dobies (they're too skinny looking), but I've never had a bad experience with one.
A year or so ago, my husband and I were taking our year old daughter to the local Starbucks. Sitting outside in the little cafe area was an older couple with their two gigantic Dobies (both dogs, as pups, were taller than my full grown rott).
My daughter, who has only known dogs over 70 lbs, saw the black and tan beauties and said, "PUPPIES!"
She then proceeded to make two new friends. The dobies were just so patient and friendly, and really loved the adoration. I'd always thought they were these nervous, high-strung dogs--but these pups really impressed me. Very cool dogs.
