This reminds me of the tax evasion charges brought against Newt Gingrich. None were ever prosecuted, if I recall. But he was tarred enough he resigned from the House Majority Leader's seat.

Earle took on water. And despite the liberal media's glee, the other charges could still get tossed. With the conspiracy charges gone, Earle is playing with a weaker hand. Now we'll see what evidence he intends to produce to show the judge the state can meet its burden of proof at trial.

There are two democratic party hacks in this case: the DA and the judge who threw out one set of charges.
The DA's job was to get DeLay indicted and thereby lose his majority leadership job in the House. The DA got his job done.
The judge kept enough charges against DeLay in order that DeLay couldn't get his leadership positon back before Jaanuary. And, a lot of people expect or are hoping that once January comes around it will be too late for DeLay to get his position back. The judge got his job done.
And, by extension, the democratic party got a victory out of the bogus charges and the seemingly fair judge.
Democrats win, Republicans lose.

You answered your own question: Because she has brains! :-) Naah, Jenny. I married a woman with a PhD - I was actively LOOKING for a woman with some brains.
Some of us guys just think she looks kinda like a concentration camp victim. Have a cheeseburger, Ann! :)
