Nice to see the polls turn around. The polls are, on balance, accurate.
The only thing that has changed for Bush since the election is a few percentage points of Independants have lost their faith in him. They stayed with him despite all the Democratic blubbering about stealing 2000 and the Iraq War, but the events of the past year, especially Katrina, how soured them or just put them in a pessimistic mood in general. Continued death toll in Iraq also propelling this pessimism. Dems still hate Bush as much as they did in 2004 and, except for the Miers thing, Republicans are pretty much the same.
Bush's ratings had bottomed out as a result of gas prices, the Katrina fiasco, and a series of attacks in Iraq. But now he has begun to rebound. That doesn't mean we should be overconfident, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Things are beginning to look up.
Does this mean we can stop worrying that he'll lose reelection to a 3rd term ? ;-)
Stay on offense GWB!
You have told us that the best defense is a good offense, take your own advice.
I always found it a little funny that Libs actually thought his low approval would last. The only unfortunate thing, is his low approval ratings seemed to hit at a bad time as far as recruiting goes, and I think it probably hurt our recruiting for 2006.
You're very right. Shelley Moore Capito, John Hoeven, Mike Rogers, and James Douglas appear to have backed out of winnable races due to Bush's low point.
I don't think Douglas would have run either way, too much of a longshot and he likes being Governor too much, but I think it probably did cost us Capito and Hoeven. It also quite possibly cost us Miller either for Governor or Senate.
Who's Mike Rogers again?
He's a Congressman from Lansing.
Oh, yah, hes the non Candice Miller guy in Michigain, right?
Oh well. Bouchard looks decent.
